“We didn’t see them and were just shooting the wreckage”/“We were worried they’d keep fighting” were the exact excuses offered in the Peleus case, as it happens.

There’s an established penalty for ordering the killing of shipwrecked sailors (even during a war, which we are manifestly not in) and we should apply that penalty. I would say it’s vitally important to apply that penalty, in fact.

this is the point of my pinned skeet: fascists are miserable little men who want to force the world to be as little and miserable as they are, and any fictional representation has to lean all the way in to that pathetic sorriness to resist appropriation

remember, fascists are small men who want to feel big, dorks who want to look cool, simpletons who cant handle complexity

theyre losers who embrace a low effort ideology that lets them win, playing on easy mode to feel like theyve conquered something

Going all in on the machismo is the mistake. You need to show the machismo break down completely into an animalistic, self-indulgent yawp with no sense of glory or sexual luster or mystery or anything except the attempt of an empty soul to fill itself with kitsch.

You don't have to like cops, dads, cop dads, Christmas, movies, or Christmas movies to understand and accept that "Cop Dad Saves Christmas: Featuring Very Special Guest Star Reginald VelJohnson, the Cop Dad from Family Matters" is absolutely a goddamned Christmas movie.

Again the dumbest (and yet somehow tolerated) political analysis you come across in 2025 is someone saying Trump is “easy to beat” after we’ve seen him survive saying things weekly in a campaign that would end any other politician’s career. It’s insane cope to think “weak opposition” explains that

It is *very* divisive to suggest that Tom Cotton wanted civil unrest to devolve into something much more terrifying in 2020.

You should definitely not accuse Tom Cotton of fantasizing about civil war. That would be offensive.
