I have letter to the editor this week in our local paper.
Our community is, once again, facing a developer who wants to turn public, protected coastal land into a golf course. We've been here before. This time, it's shadier. And God knows it was shady last time. www.invernessoran.ca/top-story/co...

Also, John Candy 100% would have won an Oscar by now if he was alive.

Can you imagine what he could have done with a Wes Anderson? Or if he did more with Oliver Stone? He had more to show us!

I don't know many actors that could have played Del with the same nuance, vulnerability, slapstick humor...he was such a talent.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, The Great Outdoors, Home Alone, etc.

I remember watching PT&A for the first time in a long time a few years back and as an adult I was absolutely moved by his performance as Del.

I have not seen the doc yet, but I remember when he died, and how big a deal is was for Canadians in particular.

If you're an early 80s baby, John Candy was a staple in your entertainment from movies to cartoons (Camp Candy, anyone?)

Oh Henry bars - the middle nougat after I've eaten the chocolate and peanuts around it first.

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

Is StarFleet stealing their data? Not to be confused with Data...though he does get stolen from time to time in TNG...

Watching Voyager with my husband and it's a holodeck episode.

Maybe some fan already answered this, but how do we think the privacy settings work on that thing? Do people just clear cache/delete history after? Honour code thing among the engineers?

Is this going to come with any self reflection or accountability? Or just deflection and a gutless, "hey, I'm just a dumb comedian! You shouldn't listen to me!" Cop out?

“I voted for none of this."

Prominent influencers, including Theo Von, Joe Rogan, and Andrew Schulz, are starting to distance themselves from the president they helped propel to the White House.

How comfortable are crew members with their coworkers knowing just how into certain fictional scenarios they are?

It's so nice to see couples sharing hobbies...

Circling back to Gene Hackman for a sec...Heartbreakers (one of those "not a great movie, but has great actors doing their best with what they have" movies). Hackman knew the assignment, and delivered such a good performance that you almost forgot the rest of the movie was pretty mid.

Love all of this for you!

To clarify (because I think I understand why you said this), I meant no one was going to take this guys side in the celebrity divorce in general. I didn't mean to imply he couldn't say no to sexual activity.
meadowofashxo.bsky.social
You know, none of us really know what happened and relationships are complicated, but...no one was ever going to take this guys side, right?

100% Gene Hackman was one of our best, most versatile actors of all time. Flashy blockbusters, weird indie, comedy, etc. He was the best part of every movie he was ever in.
iwriteok.bsky.social
Hoult is one of my favorite actors. I'll watch anything he's in. But Gene Hackman is like a top five movie star of all time. There's just no competing with the man.

I haven't watched a lot of Portlandia, but I did read a fuck ton of Chuck Palahniuk when I was a teen/young adult. I think that's where it started!

I was saying to a friend recently that I wished I had visited more places in the US before shit got too weird in a bad way. Portland is one of those places I'd love to experience!
