Complexity of thought is something I’ve been studying for quite some time as someone who supports deep thinkers with big jobs.

I think it has implications for a lot of societal/culture change and I don’t really see it being mentioned (it’s quite niche tbh).

So here’s a thread.

I’m coming to #London #Manchester #Edinburgh and #Glasgow touring a book on the long history of #transgender people and the fight for #LGBTQ rights against Nazis in the #Weimar. I’m a journalist, an author, a TV host, a PhD, a podcaster. Interview me. Let’s annoy #TERFS @theguardian.com any takers?

So they found a 125,000 yr old Neanderthal fat rendering plant & I have thoughts.

Knowing that they loved saturated fat SO MUCH that they industrialized to get as much of it as humanly possible?

Makes me feel seen, heard, supported, etc www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

It's really weird to demand accountability from a NYC mayoral candidate for a deadly NYC shooting rather than the current NYC mayor, an ex-cop who campaigned on a "tough on crime" platform and promptly got indicted for crimes
Wall Street Journal headline and deck: "New York Shooting Puts Mamdani on the Spot Over Policing Views: The killing of four people in a Midtown office building rattled a city where mass attacks are rare and violent crime has declined."

Dersh has been banging this drum since Trump1 & the really good news is: ostracism works, even on the shameless.

Tons of people miss this--the shameless are hyper-sensitive to stigma.

Civil society should use this free, non-violent tool to punish destructive people a lot more often. It works.

Dershowitz says he’s suing the Martha’s Vineyard Farmer’s Market after the pierogi guy refused to sell to him yesterday because he defends Trump. He complains that he’s also banned from the MV book fair, library, synagogue, and can’t get invited to any parties.

It was spelled that way in a publicity draft recently, and yeah, I knew they had a Frenchish pronunciation in mind.

Also, I have stopped being surprised that I am one degree of separation from anyone interesting, via @jovanevery.bsky.social.

@the-independent.com has now scrubbed two articles exposing the bigotry of a nurse spearheading an anti-Trans+ legal crusade

When media outlets censor their own factual reporting to placate extremists, they’re not just failing themselves and the public, they’re undermining democracy itself

The Independent pulled this one, as well

I don't know what is going on with that other Independent Sandie Peggie tribunal article, but they published this a couple of hours ago. Keep an eye in case it goes the same way

One thing this world is showing me is that my peace, my joy, my comfort, my determination cannot depend on external events.
It has to come from 'inside', from connection to something greater.

These tears are from letting go of a world that can ever be carefree. But beauty, warmth, love persist.

Hope in this deep & powerful sense is not the same as joy that things are going well, or willingness to invest in enterprises that are obviously headed for early success, but...an ability to work for something because it is good, not because it stands a chance to succeed.

- V. Havel (tr. P. Wilson)
The kind of hope I often think about (especially in situations that are particularly hopeless, like prison) I understand above all as a state of mind, not a state of the world. Either we have hope within us or we don't; it's a dimension of the soul; it's not essentially dependent on some particular observation of the world or estimate of the situation. Hope is not prognostication. It is an orientation of the spirit, an orientation of the heart; it transcends the world that is immediately experienced, and is anchored somewhere beyond its horizons.

I will never not understand how a minority of people have decided that wind farms - significantly prettier than pylons, coal power plants, nuclear power plants, and almost certainly fusion power plants - are ugly. In terms of energy generation, what else are you hoping for that is better?
dsquareddigest.bsky.social
On holiday, I notice that there are wind turbines on the shore of Lake Garda, which very much makes me think that residents with a view of some incredibly mid Cotswold or other can put a sock in it.

The strategy is striking. Zohran has been doing interviews w/ South Asian television, Pakistani news channel, Punjabi TV, Bangla newspaper, and more.

“We are going to heavily feature him in these places throughout the fall,” a Zohran adviser tells me. 6/
