Sad news from @hhmi.org. Canceling a grant for junior scientists, after they toiled on their applications. With all the crap that is happening. To focus on existing grantees, who are least affected by the NIH meltdown. With an endowment of $22bn, shouldn't the next generation be the top priority??
gabbyscher.bsky.social
Finding out HHMI is canceling the Hanna H. Gray Fellows competition is heartbreaking. Especially since if they decide to hold it next year, I’ll no longer be eligible
Email from HHMI. Subject is: [External] Update on the 2025 Hanna H. Gray Fellows Competition.
Gray box says: Some people who received this message don’t often get email (the a red cross out of the email) why this is important.
Email reads: Dear HGF Applicant:

I am writing to share that HHMI has made the difficult decision to pause all competitions as we work to ensure continued support for our scientists at a challenging moment for science and science funding. This means that we are not proceeding with the 2025 Hanna H. Gray Fellows Competition.

We received hundreds of thoughtful and inspiring applications, reaffirming the importance of supporting early career scientists through the transition from postdoc to faculty. We thank you for the time, effort, and care you put into your application materials.

Bests,
Leslie
