We expect mothers to optimize their children's wellbeing when much of what threatens children’s health and wellbeing can’t be solved by any mother alone. There is not a single mother in the world, for example, who can protect her child from the air everyone breathes

The Children Are All Of Ours
Mothers go to great lengths to keep their children safe. But no mother can protect her child from dirty air, toxic chemicals, and poisoned water.

You think you own whatever land you land on
The Earth is just a dead thing you can claim…
You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you…
Come roll in all the riches all around you
And for once, never wonder what they're worth

When shit hits the fan, people don't rise to the occasion, they sink to the level of their training. If you're primarily training yourself to panic when shit hits the fan, well...
Panic, and even anxiety, are rarely productive mindsets.

Anxiety can drive someone to preparation, but, more often, it simply drives people into dark mental spaces.

But when it comes time to *act*, preparation is everything and anxiety, worry, and panic, mean very little.
it can be simultaneously true that we're in an unprecedented crisis the likes of which the US hasn't seen in living memory, and also that all of us need to collectively calm the fuck down and chill out

TIMELINE CLEANSE for everyone understandably having A Whole Day today.

Stop doom-scrolling for a moment and bask in the cuteness of Bella's baby pictures. (And stand, stretch, take a break and get something refreshing to drink.)

Bella loves you all and wants you to take care of yourselves 💖

Yup, @jamellebouie.net has this exactly right. What these guys are celebrating/pursuing/yearning for is not masculine energy, it's *adolescent* energy. Drinking Red Bull, crushing Call of Duty, refusing to clean your room. It is indescribably pathetic. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/18/o...

Correction: Zukerberg’s behaviour is not “masculine energy”. It’s misogyny. The two are not the same! #nytimes #zuckerberg #masculinity
It really is such masculine energy to blame things on a woman who no longer works at the company www.nytimes.com/2025/01/16/u...
