I made a teensy basset hound. Rufus (real basset) for scale. This is very much a first attempt. I stink at amigurumi, but this is how you get better at stuff! 🧶#crochet

I’m researching prices because Hulu live is raising theirs (plus it doesn’t automatically come with Disney+ OR ESPN Unlimited) and streaming costs more than cable used to. Meanwhile, cable? Is charging $60/month for 10 channels. “The market” doesn’t work for consumers.

Tariffs mean that basically ALL of my spending on hobbies/fun stuff has stopped (nail polish, yarn, skincare). I’m putting LESS money into the economy (the closest local yarn store is an hour away & not open the days I can go there).

How bad are tariffs going?

I paid for $32 of shaving cream from Canada. Unique stuff I’ve used for years, nothing like it in US. Small family business.

UPS guy came to my door today with box and said I have to pay additional $120 before he can hand it to me.

That makes it 5x more expensive!!! 🤯

Here’s a statement that might be radical in 2025: ‘bad art’ is still art, not content or slop. “But what about AI?” What about it? It demands that we interrogate the definition of art itself, and therefore here is mine: art is a practice, not a product.

Art is not something we consume. Art is something we do.

Artificially-generated ‘art’ does not fall beyond the purview of our definition of art because it lacks aesthetic merit. It has nothing to do with aesthetics. AI ‘art’ is not art because it is not something that the ‘artist’ has done.

- weighed the coffee beans
- ground the coffee
- added water
- run the coffee machine with no coffee in it
- realized I made hot water 🫠

It’s hard to make coffee before you’ve had your coffee.

We are losing something by having newsrooms where everyone who has more than a few years’ experience has gotten fired. I don’t fault a young writer for not knowing about things that happened before she was born. But now there are no editors to help give context to these stories, either.

I finished the scarf/cowl I was working on. I realized at the very end that I’d slooooowly been leaving out rows, making it narrower, almost since the beginning. Ugh. I’d already woven in all my ends & this scarf will be wound twice around my neck, soooooo... I don’t think you can tell? 🧶 #crochet
