These are the sort of people who flung the P word at people like me as children, maybe got scolded and learned that there was a social stigma attached to that, *but were never taught why it was substantively wrong*. Remove the stigma, and the out-and-out racist re-emerges.
There are Reform voters who are enthusiastic about mass deportations but will recoil if you say the P-word. That seems bad and inconsistent but it does explain why this story is so damaging to someone so adept (as an adult politician) at maintaining the veil

One of the problems with British media is the absolute dominance of writers means that we have zero editorial ethical thought exercised about the use of pictures and graphics.
despite being Iraqi, and all that entails with experiencing the worst of humanity. it wasn't until these past couple of years that i had to accept the proportion of people who are evil and cruel was not a very small minority. this has been a pretty devastating realisation.

yes. when three parties are pushing different shades of the same fash policies that only a large minority want, it becomes undeniable that the issue is systemic. our institutions are failing us and we need to recognise this to avert further disaster.

It's ridiculous that we (just about) survived 14 years of the Tories, only for Labour to allow the madness to take hold and spread.

Highly allergic to Grace Blakeley and Richard Murphy myself, so Polanski needs to do better. But I'm sure he can do better with the right advice. Can't be bothered with carping from those hostile to wealth taxes though: you can't rebuild solidarity without taking on the ultra-rich.

if this government is willing to dismantle the right to asylum, the right to protest, the right to an appeal, at what point do we admit that while there are fascists over there (farage, trump) they are also already here.
Somewhat lost amid the din of all the other anti-immigration/asylum policies this government has churned out, but the new Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Act has received Royal Assent. This is an act which continue the moves of criminalising people seeking asylum.

I'm haunted by a sentiment @lastpositivist.bsky.social posted long ago about "implicit bias" being hard to distinguish from "explicit bias + lying".
