guy at the pub this weekend watching an endless loop of videos with that awful emotionless AI-generated voiceover. no headphones and the volume up high and he didn’t stop even when he was literally ordering a drink at the bar. pathological behaviour!!

It helps to be able to spell the country you say only you are competent enough to run.
Goody-bag merch from Tory Conference branded "When Labour negotiates Britian loses" and signed "Kemi Badenoch".

Cory Doctorow gamed this out in Walkaway in 2017: you get at these guys (non-violently, if it needs to be said) via their social graph

ICE just blatantly violated the law and arrested sitting Chicago Alderperson Jessie Fuentes while seeking to illegally arrest a patient in a hospital. Fuck these fascists.

today i used a (physical) technology that was quite complex but like, *exquisitely* well designed and it was just so … nice, in this age of bullshit useless digital charlatanry, to interact with a product that had actual serious thought and genuine care for the user behind it.

reported almost identically by Al Jazeera…

more deranged café behaviour: a woman had her bag on the last free counter seat and refused to take it off and put it on the floor so a guy could sit there because she “didn’t want to forget it” when she left. the manager had to come over and gently remonstrate with her. 🫠

took a break from blocking people on social media to write a post about some places in Jewish London that I love:

just because you know. it is nice to think about some lovely parts of my culture and heritage.

anyway, I just spent an hour verifying an incredibly basic fact that numerous government agencies had failed to include in any of their press releases about the topic 🫠

basically the institutional version of the observation made elsewhere that AI writing won’t advance to the level of human writing but rather human writing will devolve to the level of AI slop.

i think another consequence of the flood of AI slop ruining the internet is that people/agencies will also gradually lose the ability to produce useful information.

You’re conflating the discredited Conservatives with a new populist right party, and polls with election results. Yours with love from the barely developed UK

i read about a specific cockney rhyming slang word in a novel the other day and i have since heard it deployed at least three times in random casual conversations around London. how good.

clients used to send me concise bullet points / ideas which while often incoherent and needing work used to at least roughly articulate what they *wanted*. increasingly it’s just pages of superficial AI slop that doesn’t really mean anything to either of us 🫠

I’ve definitely felt the observation here that it shifts the work from creator to receiver, but haven’t articulated it. that’s helpful for describing why it feels so - on top of everything - rude to receive ai-generated work.

The article echoes what I’ve seen and heard from peers: AI makes it easy to produce slick but shallow work that looks plausible on the surface, yet riddled with errors or bad assumptions underneath.

Your coworkers end up having to fix or redo it.

It’s workslop, and it’s spreading fast.
