I saw this shit all the time in Education and it is why I'm DEEPLY skeptical of anyone who wants to talk to you about your passion because lemme tell you, the more they wanna encourage your passion the less they wanna pay you.
In libraries, we call this vocational awe. The idea that if you are invested in your calling, you should accept low wages/inhumane conditions is a nasty little trick of capitalism.

The "Starving artist" trope was started by ppl who didn't wanna pay artists (writers, painters, musicians, etc) & wanted it to seem a good thing. Artists suffering for art, starving artists, doing it for love only/shunning money - All myth turned folklore as reason to NOT FUCKING PAY US OUR DUE.
