Now, finally the main point (lol). Our capacity as a country to build things, educate kids, look after people etc is not constrained by the dollars in the mythical ‘public purse’. The real constraint is the availability of real resources – people, materials, energy etc. [9/n]

For example, high-income folks spend as much on meals out as low-income folks spend on food. Maybe they could afford to pay a bit more tax and eat out less? That might mean fewer hospo workers and more nurses. End of the world? [15/n]

Good news and bad news: “The answer is shocking, but perhaps not surprising: Donald Trump isn’t that engaged in the policy of his administration, JD Vance is weak and powerless, and the only one that matters is Stephen Miller.”
Across the last 48 hours, “Signalgate” has morphed from one scandal into what I think is best thought of as five distinct overlapping scandals, as well as providing some fascinating political insight into who has power and how decisions get made in Trump II. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/the-five-s...

Matthew Hooton has changed his tune on Luxon - saying Luxon deserves a second term if an Indian deal goes through.
Did he say the same for Ardern's historic EU deal or Robertson's increased global credit rating?

Yeah, nah, Luxon & Nat don't deserve a second term, or another look in again.

Here's an important tip. The TPB is met with outrage. The RSB similarly. But Chris Bishop's RMA changes enforce the same type of framework - elevating property rights at the expense of community/future/environment & scrubbing Te Tiriti.

Politicians will say "Law based on property rights" but what they really mean is "If I own it why can't I do what I want with it?" This was also once said to people who had the audacity to oppose slavery.

Should Democrats move to the right? Absolutely not. That's morally wrong and bad politics. The real lesson of 2024 is that Democrats must become an anti-establishment party ready to shake up the system on behalf of working people.

Tell me again how having multinationals doing business is good for the LOCAL NZ economy?
Compass isn't going into liquidation.

They are a billion dollar multinational that's listed on the FTSE and employs half a million people.

It's the local subcontractor that has been left carrying the can.
