They face huge risks, especially during economic crises, when dictators choose to financially extort or #purge their business allies. And yet, despite their power to disrupt, business elites rarely switch sides.

My research shows why.

I'm glad he specified the window was "of time" because I was worried they were discussing stained glass.

🤘🏼I wrote about sweating the small stuff. The city parks dept answered city council’s request to look into destructive practices w a shrug. That’s not good enough. Total park reform is needed & needs to be an election platform. If Chow passes on it, someone else surely will. Pls read & share. 🙏🏼🤘🏼
Shawn Micallef: How Toronto can take a lesson from Van Halen, and learn to sweat the small stuff
Anybody who travels this city knows large vehicles are routinely in parks. It’s disrespectful to Torontonians, a scandalous waste of money, and intrusive to those trying to enjoy the outdoor

Congrats! I've long enjoyed the show, which is a regular in my workout/dishes rotation. I recently got my 10yo and 8yo on board. 10yo is currently listening in bed (school PA day) while I work at home.

Looking forward to the new one.

Why is this man, who clearly has no sense of remorse for acting in a way that endangers fellow citizens, being given a sympathetic ear instead of being jailed?

Driver who racks up between $300 and $400 a month in speeding and parking tickets feels like he’s "being bullied.” www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/arti...
Dasrath, who spends much of his time driving for work, said he regularly racks up $300 to $400 a month in parking and speeding tickets.

“When you get the ticket in the mail about four to six weeks later, the first thing I felt is anger and rage… you feel like you’re being bullied.”

All three positions are meant to be senior. The Munk School is a great place to work. People are happy, research is fun, students are great... I'm on one of the committees, but happy to chat with people about any of them.

Ahh, but you see they are light and refreshing. Light is the opposite of dark, so they're really just keeping democracy alive here.

It's that time of year again: We're hiring! The Munk School at U of T is hiring a Chair in Climate Policy - open field, open specialty. Political scientists, economists, public policy specialists, etc. should all apply! Happy to answer questions.

2) As you'd probably guess, I'm a bit more skeptical about the larger impact on Canadian attitudes. Last fall we saw the first uptick in a while in anti-refugee sentiment, coupled with a much bigger uptick in anti-immigration sentiment. www.environicsinstitute.org/docs/default...

This is good. A couple of comments:
1) I like the population decline point. I think you imply the equivalent in a few places but to make it explicit - church groups can use it to offset attendance declines.

Yeah, @mattpolacko.bsky.social and I have been puttering around something about accountability and provincial politics. Not there yet, but we should have something this fall. A good measure of provincial political knowledge would be great.
