We don't talk enough about how any contact at all with the criminal punishment system can destroy your life. The arrest, the court dates, missing work and other associated costs etc... People who aren't proximate to this really have no idea.

Here’s a thing I wish we could do - leave the 20th c labels in the 20th c & try stuff that’s in line w/ shared values that might work to make people’s lives better.Klein &Thompson are liberals.Mamdani is a socialist. They agree on this (& probably a lot else) this is what coalition politics is like.
Evidence politics is all just vibes now: When Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson argue zombie regs are driving the affordability crisis in blue cities, they get dismissed as neolib shills.

Zohran Mamdani says the same thing at a food cart, and it's socialism.

In the words of Nelson Mandela: it always seems impossible until it’s done.

My friends, it is done. And you are the ones who did it.

I am honored to be your Democratic nominee for the Mayor of New York City.

Appeasing fascists never works!!!

Just ask law firms, universities, and Trump’s former political allies.
Jessica Ramos basically admitted to Brian Lehrer that she thinks Trump will punish and single out NYC if Mamdani wins and that's her justification for backing Cuomo

First off, STOP MAKING DECISIONS BASED ON FEAR.

Second, stop giving that man more power by rewarding his racism with cowardice. FFS

There's no opinion from the majority because to put it in writing would be to admit the horror they are allowing to take place under this order.

"SCOTUS allows Trump admin to deport people to random countries with no notice"

Honestly still can't believe that I wrote this headline today, let alone that the U.S. Supreme Court's majority did so.
SCOTUS allows Trump admin to deport people to random countries with no notice
Justice Sotomayor called the order a "gross ... abuse" of the court's authority. Also: Law Dork in the media.

No way to overstate how insane this is.
#BREAKING: Over a (sharp) public dissent from the three Democratic appointees, #SCOTUS clears the way for the Trump administration to remove migrants to third countries *without* giving them an additional opportunity to contest whether they face persecution or other forms of mistreatment there:

just going to re-up this for no reason at all 😁
Protesting matters because:

-we show the fascists we will not be silenced and we are not scared

-we show each other where we stand

-we build community that sparks further action

Don’t let anyone tell you protesting doesn’t matter.

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

One of my favorite emails that we’ve gotten about the law firm tracker—

Someone created a Google Chrome & Firefox extension that adds a banner at the top of each law firm’s website if they have caved to the administration or complied in advance.

I love nerds!!!

Yesterday was Trump's 100th day in office. One thing is clear: The criminal legal system is worse off now than it was 100 days ago

It's a new kind of crisis. So we released a tool that tracks how the system is getting larger, harsher & less effective:

Tracking how the Trump administration is making the criminal legal system worse
A growing lists of the ways the Trump administration is making prisons worse and gutting programs that keep communities safe
