Today’s procedural decision by the Supreme Court is an abdication of the judiciary’s role to protect all Americans when the President violates the Constitution. Importantly, birthright citizenship, which has been a core tenet of our Constitution for more than 150 years, remains.

Cville: 3pm today, at the Rotunda. you don’t have to love Jim Ryan, I sure don’t, but Trump’s DOJ forcing his replacement by Youngkin would be an absolute disaster for anyone affiliated with UVA, and honestly for our region at large.

For locals still pissed about this - there's a 3pm protest planned at the Rotunda on federal overreach and university autonomy.

Imagine how much work one could get done without all this shit.

This logic reminds me of what some have guessed to be SCOTUS’s strategy with Trump: avoid a constitutional crisis and protect the authority of the constitution by not ruling against a lawless president.

Douthat: Conservatives alone respected the “imperial papacy.” They were the last “custodians of infallibility’s mystique.” Until Pope Francis ruined it. If disagreeing with conservative Catholics was enough to stir "more of them to doubt & disobedience," was it faith & obedience in the first place?

I've been calling my Rep and Senators every day to just read them these passages.

I had been doubtful that we were going to have a "this is the crisis moment" with Trump, as opposed to "everything about this is a destructive catastrophe."

But the Abrego Garcia case is the crisis moment.

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

Yes, definitely. Patricia Arquette was cracking me up. Laughed all the way to work... and could then tell my colleagues about it! #notsevered

Democrats seem to have chosen to focus their opposition to Trump's regime on 'kitchen table' issues (e.g. egg prices) *to the exclusion* of his destruction of the Constitution.

That's a mistake, & I can prove it to you with a little document you might have heard of: The Declaration of Independence

The book The Two Faces of Democracy by @mollyscudder.bsky.social and Stephen K. White is a really great start for anyone who wants to understand the current debates on agonistic and deliberative democracy, and wants to find inspiration how to get out of the current democratic mess.

One more thing about this piece of bullsophistry by Barnett and Wurman on birthright citizenship.

To the framers of the 14th Amendment, people who had, by bad actions, failed of allegiance, obedience, and amity were not a hypothetical problem. *There were hundreds of thousands of them.*

The major media is utterly failing to simply state that Trump is a vicious racist, who blames everything on presumed racial or ethnic minorities. How hard can it be to just say “In shockingly racist remarks Trump refuses to accept responsibility and blames deadly plane crash on minorities”
Trump is a dumb, vicious racist
