DCMS is also, probably, the most fun job to get really into as a minister?
One manifestation of “has she realised that she is actually in government?” is her mental map of the country visibly excludes everywhere that didn’t vote Labour in 2019. It’s all “London, core cities, ex-industrial towns”. There’s a fantastic record by a British-Polish woman from Devon out today!
She’s not only frontbencher who acts like they haven’t realised they are no longer in opposition, but Nandy might be the most egregious example.

Because if you were to take this silly question seriously, the obvious comeback is “Well you’re culture secretary, why don’t you do something about it?”

Will we ever run out of jobs for humans to do? People argue new jobs always pop up. My "giant bowl of M&Ms theory" says, every time you take an M&M it uncovers 4-5 new M&Ms. But even a giant bowl will run out. What's left? The human connection. Playing chess with a human, scarier, but more fun!

A New ‘Fundamental Fairness’ Can Save Democracy, the Environment, and Canada
As major media focus on negotiations between Prime Minister Mark Carney and Donald Trump, it’s the Canadian people who are our best line of defence. We need a new fairness to empower ourselves.

The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here.

But, while we can, say it anyway.

On this night 90 yrs ago, Bill W. found himself in the Mayflower Hotel in Akron, OH. Only 5 mos sober & w/his business trip in shambles, he thought about going into the bar. Instead, he made a phone call. The next day, Bill & Dr. Bob met each other and changed the world. #aa #sobersky #recoveryposse

There’s an unnerving contention of people who love to act like women married to conservative men (hell, even women who are self-described conservatives!) are somehow not in control of their own choices.
2 reasons some are surprised: Victorian essentialism that imagines women in rightwing marriages must be captives (see the *years* of "free Melania"); conflation of talent w/ morality (& morality w/ good politics.) Hines is a great comic actor, w/ very ugly politics, doing real damage in the world.
Here she is.

Tucker Carlson: “If the vaccine is effective and you take it, then why does it matter if I take it?”
Cheryl Hines: “It doesn’t make any sense.”
Tucker: “So ‘my body, my choice’ was not a real thing, it turned out.”
“It’s your body, my choice.”
Cheryl: “Yeah, your body, my choice.”

One of its most compelling conclusions is that the Biden administration seemed reluctant to engage in “picking the fights worth having” and sometimes took refuge in incremental policy gains due to a self-limiting “risk aversion.”

I love your work, but, yeah, no shit.

Powerful and moving interview with Virginia Giuffre's brother Sky and sister-in-law Amanda:

"He's just Andrew. He's no longer a prince... This normal girl, from a normal family, has taken down a prince. We are so proud of her."

"She was extraordinary. She did the extraordinary."
