All I've ever said was "you do not currently live under fascism, democracy still works, and you still have all the tools of democracy available to you."

But I know this deprives you of being the main character in a new V for Vendetta

"It is logically impossible to simultaneously be evil, corrupt, and incompetent" is an absolutely amazing take to have in the year of 2025

They see it. They know. They just like that he hates the same people they hate.
How the fuck can anybody that voted for this colossally disturbed man not see how dangerous he is?

Interesting insight here
Even 5 years ago if you had told me CBS News would go this way whereas the WSJ wouldn’t it would have surprised me — ultimately I think purveyors of business news are the only ones insulated from these dynamics because when rich people are paying you for market-moving news you can’t mess around.

I have a piece dropping soon at @theatlantic.com
Other than yourself, the only place that I saw that even touched upon this news was PBS Newshour.

The media is ignoring Trump and his rantings

Sadly, We will all pay the price for ignoring the impending storm of the destruction of American democracy.

Sometime around 2029
Hours before 60 Minutes was set to air a story on deportees who were sent by the Trump administration to prison in El Salvador, describing “brutal and torturous conditions,” 60 Minutes announced that it has pulled the segment and will air it in the future.

Absolutely right.

AI might be able to summarize (poorly) what we currently know, but a major goal of historical research is to find the hidden surprises out there.

Let me illustrate …
Not a historian but like to research. The AI might summarize what I'm looking for, but it doesn't find what I'm *not* looking for. The book on the shelf next to the one I wanted. The insight in chapter 6 based on the quote I needed from chapter 4.

Well, like I said, Slumdog Millionaire was beloved by critics. As was Forrest Gump. And many other lauded films.
Sometimes, it's hard for people to look back and say "maybe not so great"
Its also okay for you not to like something without insisting everyone else secretly doesnt like it too. Its genuinely one of my all time favorites and claiming I'd only say that because "its deemed a classic" is insulting.

I'm going to base my "objectively bad" rating of Pluribus on the fact that the character is inconsistently written, among many other flaws. (No, don't tell me "well, she's HUMAN, we're weird!") She's a paper-thin character, as are the others. /1
I don't think it makes sense to say it's "bad." It's not for you, fair enough. I often don't like things the rest of the world seems to rave about (most recently "Fat Ham") but I know it's just my taste, not that it was objectively bad.

I love the music of the 60s but the top 40 charts of 1970s and 71 and even 1972 are really just leftover 1960s stuff
Smoky Robinson, Tears of a Clown? I've always loved Motown. Smoky, Four Tops were my faves. Though before the era of Motown, The Platters did some of my absolute favorite songs. They were brilliant.
