What's everyone's recommendation for a union active in Wales/UK wide that represents hospitality workers?
Personally I would rather one that doesn't give money to the labour party, but needs must.

A reminder that when Gary Lineker was under fire a couple of years back for criticising the Conservatives while a BBC presenter, the channel said, by contrast, it was fine for Lord Sugar to repeatedly endorse the Tories because he was "free to say, as a business person, what he wants to say."

The fact is no presenter has ever had to leave the BBC for expressing conservative views, or even explicitly endorsing a right-wing party.

Was never a problem for Jeremy Clarkson. Was never a problem for Andrew Neil. Was never a problem for Alan Sugar

Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

The fight for same-sex marriage reminds us how recently gay men & lesbians were persecuted by govts.

Just over 50y ago most treated gay men as criminals, equated them with child abusers & saw them as rapists. There were major concerns about gay men in men’s toilets! Sound familiar?*
13th December 2002: Belgium's Senate approves same-sex marriage, making it the second country in the world, after the Netherlands, to do so. Belgian activists had been lobbying for same-sex marriage since the 1990s. #OnThisDay #Queerstory

there should be a system where cool names can be requisitioned from stuff that sucks. shadow cabinet? you're far too boring, sorry. there's a shop full of occult curiosities in a murky alleyway that needs a name. ku klux klan? you can't have that, I'm nabbing that for my jazz funk fusion band.

ok Dorian got there in one neat post when my short thread still just sort of failed to get to the point:
It's revealing about taboos around racism that the visceral bullying racism of schoolboy Farage cuts through while the much more consequential thinly veiled racism of adult Farage doesn't. Many people need that veil and flinch when it's removed. You can advocate racist policies but not say the words
