Got to love studies that were clearly conducted "for the love of the game" (“self-decapitating sea slugs”, “plants that see and use that for mimicry”, “worms that jump in the air”, aka papers you sometimes find in @currentbiology.bsky.social
) References to all of this bellow👇

I can't believe I need to have an AI policy! I made it pretty short though: Using AI is cheating, yourself mostly. In addition to the environmental blight created by AI, it makes no sense to use it in your intellectual and creative work. Why would you outsource your innate intelligence?

Lay(-ish) summary of our melanoma confinement paper with some behind the scenes details of how this project came about, and what we’re planning to do next (hint: PDAC 🐟). Thanks @nature.com for featuring our work.

This is a follow up to our 2021 paper where we described spatially-organized gene expression changes at the tumor border. We now show that mechanical force exerted on cells at the invasive front leads to changes in nuclear, cytoskeletal, and chromatin architecture that favor invasion.

Everyone I've ever connected to on LinkedIn (and myself) was put out of work in the last 3 months lol. Idk what the official figures are but easily 100s of thousands globally, at least 10s of thousands in US.

A 2018 research study found that Canadians use nicer, more positive words and fewer emoticons on Twitter. This is a word cloud from the study, with Canada on the left, the USA on the right. journals.plos.org/plosone/arti...

Second, women make terrific leaders. They tend to be organized and prepared. They also tend to be more empathic as they have often experienced more challenges and setbacks than men in similar positions. They tend to be more courageous, particularly when the stakes are high.

NIH-funded research is at risk. Cuts to federal funding could harm science and the economy. Contact Congress now to protect research. Every call matters. Find your reps at govtrack.us and speak up today. #FundScience

Super excited to announce my new lab at the University of Michigan opening Jan 2025! 🎉We’ll study how cells work together to shape the GI tract, with ties to regeneration & disease.

Hiring at all levels—esp. a research tech to help launch the lab! Info: huyckelab.org
