This administration lied about the people it sent to an overseas torture prison. It lies about the people it’s deporting. It lies every day to gain political advantage. Not a chance in hell they won’t lie about huge swaths of people they suspect might vote for the other party.

From CBS to X, right-wing billionaires now control most major media. Dark-money spending on elections is now essentially unregulated, unenforced. In 2025, Trump's handlers made clear how lucrative investing in a corrupt president can be. Spending on the '26 and '28 elections will be astronomical.

For my part, I can't imagine centrist Dems having the bravery, vision, persistence, or popular support needed to get real, lasting democracy reform legislation over the finish line. Electing centrist Dems might mean a brief reprieve from authoritarianism, but that won't enable durable progress.

NYT when a cis woman wants to take testosterone: 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Earlier this year, we published an article on how women are increasingly seeking out testosterone to help with energy or their sex lives. We followed up with one woman who went on testosterone to help with her menopausal symptoms. The effects had unexpected consequences for her marriage.

I remember the phrase "they can't be allowed to melt back into society" re: the de-Baathification of Iraq after the war there. Like everything about that experience, the attempt was cynical, stupid, and botched. But there really should be a plan about what we do with guys like these in the future.
ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.

But it is sad to me that instead of starting up that group, Jonathan Greenblatt and his allies decided to transform the ADL, a storied civil rights organization, into that very different kind of group.

I gather they have new right-wing donors to replace my family and friends. Congrats, I guess?

A government that can officially declare that Jesus is your savior can just as easily declare the opposite.
Here’s the U.S. government being officially religious in a country with no official religion.

The odds, I thought, were slim that any columnist could make sense of it all, not because there was too much in his speech, but because there was almost nothing. Certainly nothing that belonged on TV. But Zack is right. "The fact that they needed to try such a desperate move at all is notable."

I'd go a bit further. The system needs no conspiracy to function. It just needs everyone to understand the direction things are going in. Bari Weiss was put there not to protect a legacy, but to align its politics differently.

One such refutation appears in my paper under the heading “The FBI went beyond strategic information sharing and made direct moderation demands.” I spend several hundred words explaining that that didn’t happen.

This is a very noteworthy story that has been back-paged. It is about a UK judge finding the "Campaign Against Antisemitism" to be misusing the judicial system in order to cancel (i.e. to execute a character assassination of) a comedian.

Bari Weiss is clearly a piece of shit. Kudos to Sharyn Alfonsi who did the interviews about the torture camp and has publicly stood by her work. Weiss is the sort of pseudo-journalist who can accommodate a fascist administration's desire for a prostituted media. Ellison, her boss, is the larger pos.
