Five Star Cinema in Newcastle has reopened after an 80s refit and it looks fab. Lovely geometric orange, brown & yellow carpets, brown bathroom tiles, stucco ceilings, and lovely vintage posters. I saw Song Sung Blue, a predictable colour-by-numbers drama powered by Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson

Christ Church Cathedral Newcastle is my kind of church.

A massive shout-out to the caterers and waitstaff who make Christmas happen for those of us who are officially 'over' the whole holiday cooking thing!

Merry Christmas from Newcastle! I’m off to stuff my face and have a drink or two while maintaining my usual charm. Hope you all have a brilliant day.

This needs to be shared.
Because it’s not getting reported on enough:

Muslim fruit shop owner Ahmed al Ahmed, father of two, was the hero who bravely tackled one of the Bondi Beach shooters and took away his gun.

He saved lives during a major terror attack. Say his name, and honor the lives of the victims of the shooters

Many people in Sydney will be having a sleepless night tonight, anxious and not knowing if their loved ones are involved. Show a little kindness and compassion by not spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories.

All this male bullshit. It is well past time that we ditched being run by needy old white men.
This is a time in our nation's history that will be remembered for all the broken fools who needed so much attention.

I’ve been a loyal listener of ABC Sydney 702, but lately I’ve found myself tuning out. The on-air tone feels increasingly insular, as if the presenters represent only a narrow, privileged segment of Sydney. It’s become a bit too chummy and club-like for my taste.

For those of us who enjoy the purple prose of Lizza V. Nuzzi, the bell has rung for round two.

I don’t want to kink-shame, but this is kinda revolting.
The bamboo metaphor is back: Ryan Lizza has dropped Part 2.

Below are the opening paragraphs, but most of it is behind a paywall.

(My apologies in advance.)

I really hope Pauline Hanson never discovers that we’re teaching kids Arabic numerals.
when I was young, i used to wonder how people like this would fare in life, as they didn't seem suited for gainful employment. it turns out, the internet allowed them to accumulate a massive audience of similar idiots, enriching them and turning them into a presidential advisor

If you grew up watching Brady Bunch reruns, this short is a fun blast of nostalgia.

The way they’ve rebuilt the studio set inside the iconic intro house is so faithful, it feels like stepping right back into the world we remember so well.
