Since you never used the app, please allow me to enlighten you to what TikTok actually was: • During the COVID-19 pandemic – TT proved crucial in disseminating critical, unbiased information in real time directly from credible sources (WHO, CDC, NIH, etc. all had official accounts on the app). Not only that, but as the pandemic / lockdown stretched to unpredictable lengths and severity, it provided community and support for many people who were in complete isolation, enduring the lockdown totally alone. • During the war in Ukraine - once again TT helped disseminate info in real time, directly from Ukrainian citizens / soldiers, who also used the app to communicate urgent information both within their country, to other resistance fighters and soldiers in the front lines, but also to the rest of the world. Many Ukrainians used TT to communicate with friends and family in other countries and provide updates about their safety, if they were fleeing, and where they were able to find safe harbor. Millions around the world sent messages of encouragement, love, and support to complete strangers.” Another screenshot, a continuation of the Facebook post, with the text: “• 7 million Americans earned an income by operating small businesses on TT. Not to mention the countless other musicians, dancers/choreographers, artists, comedians, writers, actors, etc. who were “discovered” on TT and now get to live out their life’s dream. The Riverdance production hired their first ever black dancer because of her videos performing traditional Irish dance to modern rap and hip hop songs. • Thousands, if not millions, of people were able to find information about, put a name to, and finally receive diagnoses and treatments for medical conditions they’d suffered with for years, while their doctors had simply dismissed them with medical gaslighting. • TikTok was ranked as the #1 social media entity for getting the highest number of US voters registered, and ranked 3rd among all voter registration campaigns and resources. • People found community, support, encouragement, real friendships, partners / spouses, free access to mental health resources, their biological / long-lost family members, cold case murders have been solved, missing people located, abducted children returned safely. People have used resources found through TT to dismantle lifetimes of racism, sexism, homophobia, generational trauma, abusive behaviors, etc. because when we know better, we do better. But yeah, go off about how it was just a silly little kid’s app.”
