Just a vibe, you know? From the UK, jetzt in Deutschland. Used to wrangle code, coders, and customers for a living. Now just for fun. Interested in complex systems and how they fail us. Oh, and jokes.

The actual article has some even more incredible photos.

I imagine James Glossop is going to have trouble getting a pass for any future Tory events.

The photography in this article really feels like The Times are deliberately setting these people up for ridicule. (You can read it without visiting The Times here archive.ph/KZZC1)
An article from The Times: "Meet the young Tories dreaming of a bright blue future". Featuring bizarre portraits of Charles Amos, Rhys Benjamin and Daniel Campbell.

I'm now trying to decide which one looks most likely to think that.
Why not all three?

This must be one of the better examples of the misalignment between politicians and their voters.

Bray is a historian at Rutgers who received death threats after landing on Turning Points USA's Professor Watchlist. As a result, he announced he was moving to Europe. And then this happened.

This kind of harassment and abuse of scholars is Charlie Kirk's legacy and it's only getting worse.

“Someone” cancelled my family’s flight out of the country at the last second.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

Just look at the Ruhrgebiet. More systems in that region than the whole of the UK. And the varying quality of the services offered gives people a good reason to get out and vote in local elections!

The map below shows how far behind France and Germany we are in mass transit. In France, every place with over 150,000 people has some form of tram or metro.

But if mayoral areas can 'become builders' as @tracybrabinmayorwy.bsky.social puts it in the foreword, we can turn this around.

Reform would need to clarify if molestation counted before throwing their support behind it.

I think they should have marketed the later opening as a sex/fertility thing. More fun, more alcohol, more unprotected sex, more babies, lower dependency ratio in 25 years.

Are they embracing the challenge of demonstrating the problem?

Donald Trump had his annual physical examination on April 11, 2025, at Walter Reed. This Friday, he’s scheduled to have his *annual* physical again — less than six months later. Something isn’t right.

“This is a man who’s suffering dementia,” said @govpritzker.illinois.gov. “This is a man who has something stuck in his head … He doesn’t read. He doesn’t know anything that’s up to date. It’s just something in the recesses of his brain that is effectuating to have him call out these cities.”
Gov. JB Pritzker says President Trump deploying troops to Chicago due to ‘dementia’ and obsessive fixations
Democratic governor’s comments came as he continues to oppose President Donald Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops to Chicago area for deportation efforts.

You'd think there would be more interest from the US media that Trump is simply delusional - at best being fed complete fabrications by his team, at worst in serious cognitive decline and unable to recognise reality.

Ludwig Börne offering to spy on himself for half the price the police spy is being paid. (From Heinrich Heine’s book on Börne.)

And yet he knew that he was surrounded by spies, and he once said to me, "there's a fellow walking constantly behind me, following me through all the streets, standing in front of all the buildings I go into, and certainly is well paid by some government for it. If I only knew which government, I would write to it to say that I should like to earn the money myself, that I myself would submit a reliable daily report about how I had spent the whole day, with whom I had spoken, where I had gone; yes, I am ready to deliver this report at a much cheaper price,

Texas National Guard troops arriving in Chicago (via ABC News)

Remember: These are not MAGA stormtroopers. These are everyday teachers and accountants who signed up to serve their country with their spare time. They're being used as political pawns by venal, un-American, draft-dodging president

When you could code silly quizzes on Facebook, it was FULL of "what would you be in medieval times?!" etc.

I made one that nearly always answered "died as a child", "died in childbirth", "lived and died as a servant"

People got SUPER mad with it.

Everyone assumes they'll be at the top of the tree

The subtext of ‘we should be more like Dubai’, beyond the obvious racism, is ‘I should have a servant’.
