Ep 289 - Happy Holidays From The Picket Line
It's our last regular episode of 2025 and we've got a ton of labor news for you all. We start with headlines from Starbucks, Amazon, New Seasons Grocery, Sysco, the WNBA, the University of Maine, and the nations of Portugal, Bolivia, Mexico, and Brazil. Resident doctors in the UK have gone on strike again, this time with a Labour government in power that refuses to pay them. A recent Workday Magazine piece exposes Disney as a user of prison labor in Minnesota. New York City officials are actually standing up against corporate giants Amazon and UPS for once, following recent worker movements. Finally, we discuss the implications of the possible super merger between either Netflix or Paramount and Warner Brothers Discovery for workers in the entertainment industry. Thanks El Cerrito/Richmond Annex Walk & Roll for holding a powerful vigil yesterday for Donna Revecho, who was killed while crossing San Pablo Ave.

It was inspiring to join dozens to stand up for safe streets.

We need to hold Caltrans accountable to make San Pablo safer & prevent more tragedies!

Union Veteran & IBEW Local 3 member Brandon Chung emphasized how critical peer support is for Vets
Thank You to Union Veteran and IBEW Local 3 member Brandon Chung for emphasizing how critical peer support is for veterans transitioning from military service into the Union Trades. Drawing from his own experience, he shares that connecting with fellow veterans made a meaningful difference as he adjusted to a completely new environment. He compares the apprenticeship experience to returning to the structure and discipline of boot camp, noting that the transition can be challenging without guidance. Brandon highlights the importance of veteran organizations and networks within the trades, as they connect new veterans with others who’ve walked the same path—providing understanding, mentorship, and the support needed to succeed. The ULA Network is thankful to Brandon and the IBEW Local 3 Veterans Club for their leadership in working with other locals to establish Veteran Clubs within the Building and Construction Trades Council. Additionally, we would like to thank Helmets to Hardhats and the Department of Veterans Services for collaborating and sharing the resources available to Veterans within our communities. The ULA Network is dedicated to honoring the strength and solidarity of union labor by educating, connecting, and empowering individuals through shared experiences, opportunities, and support. Our mission is to uplift families and communities by promoting the value of union careers, economic development, and workforce resilience. Through collaboration and storytelling, we aim to build a future where every person understands the power of unity, dignity in work, and the promise of a better tomorrow. https://hubs.li/Q03YphSl0 Subscribe to the ULA Network for more interviews, insights, and inspiration about union labor, skilled trades, and the opportunities waiting for you in the construction industry! #UnionCareers #SkilledTrades #ConstructionJobs #Apprenticeship #CarpentersUnion #LaborMovement #ULA #CareerOpportunities #UnionStrong #DebtFreeEducation #LaborLounge #MentorshipInTrades #BuildYourFuture The ULA Network would like to thank our sponsors and supporters for believing in our mission to support educate and promote our union labor family and our communities.
