This is why virtual options and mitigation protocols are needed for in-person events. This way, when someone requests this type of accommodation, it is not seen as “too much” or “difficult” but as a way to ensure accessibility. This is especially true for high-stakes in-person events.

This 23-hour radar loop shows Category 5 Hurricane Maria approaching Puerto Rico on September 19-20, 2017. It made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane ~6am on the 20th, but right around that time, the winds in the outer eyewall obliterated the radar and the loop ends. Maria devasted the entire island

Democratic leaders refuse to endorse Zohran Mamdani, and their voters are fed up.

It's funny how vaccines worked so well that now infant mortality is low enough for all the new generations to forget it was ever a common thing.

Vaccine stability has made us forget why it was so important in the first place.

Before vaccines, 450 children died out of every 1000. Now? 20.
A graph showing that 450 out of every 1,000 children died in the 1800s. By 1950, it was about 40 out of every 1,000 kids.

New Mexico is overriding the federal government on the topic of COVID19 vaccines to ensure their residents can access them.

States hold a tremendous amount of public health power. They should use it.

If you are okay with this, if you think this is justified, if you think people living on the street have brought this upon themselves, if you think this is good leadership, you may be able to fool yourself that you care about others but you don’t fool me

the thing I love about Zohran’s campaign is that instead of “this place fucking sucks and I alone can fix it” his message is “being a New Yorker rules, we live in the best city in the world, let’s make it even better together”

show some damn pride in the places you want to govern

Vaccines are no different; just like seatbelts, airbags, and other medications, they are risk mitigation measures that we know are effective.

But we know NONE of these things are always effective.

Vaccines must be viewed the same.

Moving the vaccine goalposts: sterilizing immunity was never the rule
Vaccines aren't magical forcefields, but anti-vaxxers keep inventing fake standards so they can claim “failure” of life-saving medicines.

Gavin Newsom withheld funds from cities if they didn't throw unhoused folks' stuff out, and he personally went and threw some out himself

The “mild” Covid infection is like a hurricane 🌀 whose eye didn’t touch land. Might not have experienced the worst of it, but effects are cumulative. If the immune system is already compromised/the infrastructure has been diminished, it’ll have negative effects for however long. #CovidSurge

I will die on this hill:

it isn’t hard to say “at the height of the pandemic” or “at the start of COVID” during a podcast interview. Producers, hosts, don’t let your guests say “during COVID” like this thing is over. Correct them. Ask them to say the sentence again. This is your job.

“They did not die from COVID , they had preexisting conditions.”

“They did not die from starvation, they had other health problems.”

This is what eugenics sounds like.

First of all, Rickets can be related to nutrition so dying of starvation.

Second of all when you are malnourished your body doesn’t function properly. That includes your immune system.

Third of of this argument that you don’t matter if you have another condition is eugenics.

I’m kind of speechless with this one. I can’t imagine the kind of person who continues to make the argument that it doesn’t count as real starvation if the kids were already sick.
