Agreed. Hoshoryu is an amazing rikishi. His biggest hurdle is mental and piling it on him just makes it that much harder to overcome. But once he does - watch out.
I dont think Hoshoryu having a mea culpa every three days is the way to get him to up his game on the dohyo, y'all. The man gets routinely ridiculed by his own goddamn family and that doesnt work, I don't think getting it from the JSA and the fans is gonna be magically more effective. #sumo

Ever notice the best sumo wrestlers all have the best smiles? Hoshoryu has that smile like the purest beam of sunlight you've ever seen. Aonishiki has that humble yet mischievous smirk. I adore them so much.

So to my knowledge JSA didn't say what conditions Aonishiki had to meet to be promoted, but surely this is it, right? 12-3, the yusho, he beat one yokozuna twice this basho and we all know he beat the other one too even though the judges didn't want to admit it. So he has to have earned ozeki now

I can't choose between Hoshoryu and Aonishiki 😭 Can't we just let them both win?
And you can't even easily predict this one because yeah Hoshoryu is 0-3 against Aonishiki, but Hoshoryu is fresh and full of surprises.

Kotozakura already got his kachi-koshi - I kinda hope he takes January off and see if the extra time gives his knees time to heal better.

Tamawashi is 40s goals. Legit, the last few basho & London I've been thinking a lot about how hard it is to maintain his level of skill and physical prowess at this age, and I think my motto when I hit my fourth decade in a couple months is going to be:

Fun bout! But.. have to say it, Washi is over twice Fujinokawa’s age. Washi joined sumo before Fujinokawa was born - and just as I write this, announcer just said this is the biggest age difference in a makuuchi bout in modern history!

Um, Ōnosato is kyūjō. Fwiw he was looking pained ystrdy. So Hoss gets a no contest win. If Aonishiki wins bout vs Zakura we get a playoff with Ao vs Hoss - if Ao loses Hoss takes yūshō w/o even having to compete - which I'm sure even Hoss doesn't want.
