Hi @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social Schools are struggling at the moment. 14 years of cuts have coincided with unparalleled rises in behaviour, attendance and complex SEND needs. There are no AP places and schools are barely coping.
Tell you what, let’s raise the phonics target to 95%.
Good idea.

Phonics target, attendance target, more reading tests; so utterly depressing.
I’m not one for bleating, but the world has changed. Schools are unrecognisable from 10 years ago: complex and scary needs, apathy, illness. Sooner we understand this, the quicker we can address it.

Exactly.
…we have 20 pupils with EHCP’s (13%) in school (1FE primary) many at the highest bandings. They don’t need an adapted curriculum they need an adapted provision, properly funded. My data will always be at the whim of cohort need yet the expectation on us is the same as the school that turns them away

There are lots of wonderful people. They're not loud, or shouty, or demanding. They don't presume their opinions are right, or force you to listen.
They don't scream for attention, or argue the toss, or cry and wail when things don't go their way.
But they're out there, you just have to find them.

Just seen it said that we should link learning to real life examples as though it's a theoretical revelation rather than something teachers have always done. Not everything has to be about research. There's plenty of value in people acting intuitively in something as relational as teaching.

How to change a duvet cover.

1. Take 2 corners of the duvet.
2. Insert it into the cover.
3. Swear.
4. Wrestle it like an octopus.
5. Sweat.
6. Cry.
7. Get stuck in the cover.
8. Pretend to be a ghost.

Putting away shopping: Oh, look, we've now got 48 tins of tomatoes.

I challenge any leader who thinks the #arts are dispensable to stand in front of a group of children who have just poured their heart and soul into a performance.
Watch their eyes.
See their pride.
Feel their energy.
THAT is #education.

I never find that ‘remember to look for your lanyard’ narrative very compelling. I mean do you all live in such palatial homes that you can lose it so easily?! How careless can you be? I suppose, if I’m honest, I’ve always looked down on people who lose their lanyard…

Anyway I can’t find my lanyard
