ICU Nurse Killed by ICE in Minneapolis Has the City Demanding Answers [Video]
ICU Nurse Killed by ICE in Minneapolis Has the City Demanding Answers [Video]
The death of Alex Pretti has stopped Minneapolis in its tracks. Pretti, a 37 year old intensive care unit nurse, was shot and killed during a federal immigration enforcement operation on the south side of the city. He later died from his injuries. What makes this case hit harder is not just how he died, but who he was while alive. Alex Pretti worked as an ICU nurse at a Veterans Affairs hospital. His job was caring for critically ill patients, many of them veterans, in one of the most demanding spaces in healthcare. Coworkers described him as calm under pressure, deeply compassionate, and committed to helping people survive their worst days. Video: Federal agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement were operating in Minneapolis as part of a broader enforcement surge that had already drawn protests across the city. Tensions were high. Residents were already upset about the presence of heavily armed federal officers moving through neighborhoods. According to federal authorities, Pretti was shot during an encounter with agents. Officials allege that he approached officers while armed. Pretti was legally permitted to carry a firearm. That detail matters, because legal gun ownership does not automatically justify the use of lethal force. Bystanders and eyewitnesses paint a more troubling picture. Video circulating online shows a chaotic scene, with people shouting, filming, and trying to understand what was happening. Witnesses say Pretti appeared to be helping others and recording the situation when agents moved in. Several people at the scene say they did not see him threaten officers at the moment he was shot. Those conflicting accounts are now at the center of multiple investigations. Pretti did not have a violent criminal history. Public records show only minor traffic violations. Friends and family say violence was not part of who he was. They say he believed in showing up for people, whether that meant long hospital shifts or standing nearby when others were scared. This shooting did not happen in a vacuum. It marked another deadly encounter involving federal immigration agents in Minneapolis within a short span of time. City leaders had already raised alarms about the scope and tactics of the federal operation. After Pretti’s death, those concerns turned into direct calls for accountability. Local officials, including Keith Ellison, publicly expressed grief and confirmed that independent investigations were underway. Jacob Frey and Tim Walz both called for federal agents to step back from operations in the city, saying the situation had escalated beyond control. For many residents, the pain is layered. This was not just a protester. This was not someone accused of harming others. This was a healthcare worker who spent his days keeping people alive, now gone after a split second decision by federal officers. The case is reigniting national debates about immigration enforcement, use of force, and what happens when militarized policing meets civilian protest. It is also forcing a harder question that cannot be ignored. How does someone dedicated to saving lives end up dead in the street at the hands of the government he lived under?

If Democrats wants to ease the affordability crisis, they’ll campaign on reining in the paramilitary force that’s making everything more expensive.

How does one "look for?" a publisher if this is their first time (and experience) taking a chance on themselves and creating something for expression (and profit)?
