Oddly nothing specific, but I know exploring the wide world of Dungeon Synth would be worthwhile.

There is a big gap, writing-wise, between the last Kull tale & the first Conan tale. In that gap, Howard was writing historical adventure fiction, horror stories, began corresponding with H. P. Lovecraft, fully embraced his Celtic phase, & wrote his Bran Mak Morn tales. All of these went into Conan.

After reading all Howard's Conan stories a few years back, I'm reading all his Kull stories. I was expecting the tales to be very similar, but so far they are quite different. Any ideas as to why this is?

Sara and I chatted for a while on her podcast about comics where the guest chooses an issue that means a lot to them, and the return of the comic which first got me into S&S certainly qualifies!

About to start the long voyage to Voidcon this weekend, but lemme go ahead and post this episode with the great @obrackenbury.bsky.social who I met through his work on @newedgeswordmag.bsky.social. We're here to talk about - THE CIMMERIAN (you know, Conan)! bestissueever.podbean.com/e/episode-34...

To our delight they list sword & sorcery as its own distinct sub-genre, and of course are keen to bring more queer voices into SFF at large. How could we at NESS be less than intrigued?

I was seeking horror-tinged Sword & Sorcery for this spookiest of seasons and wouldn't you know it, genre maven Brian Murphy already has this list already made from a few years back!

I love how Elric has become a sort of shibboleth among fantasy artists and sword & sorcery fans

it's neat to see the influence of Moorcock in art, animation, film, and every single video game with a creepy meat level

art credit: Nycteris
Elric tells Moonglum about his patron Arioch, and Moonglum replies that Elric's got himself a sugar daddy. Art credit to Nycteris.

A charming thread featuring the words of Charles Saunders.

This was back decades ago when I still had the firewallimpaired website. A few years before I started halfassing the 'kometa!' blog, two vanity blogs that now only exist in the Wayback Machine.

We recently got a chance to speak with Dariel R.A. Quiogue about his sword & sorcery character Orhan Timur, sword & sorcery in general, and the crowdfunding campaign with New Edge Sword & Sorcery to release his new novella The Hunt of a Thousand Leagues.

I did receive such a rejection, but WHAT a rejection. You gotta appreciate the commitment to the bit
Dear Mighty-Thewed Author,

Thank you for your submission. Alas, other scribes have claimed the prize. Your valor shall be remembered.

Know that this shall not be the last chance to send stories to our magazine.

Best,
The New Edge Sword & Sorcery Slush Readers

I'd recommend writing a new story, though there is no rule against submitting a new draft of your story from this year.

Just as general writing advice, we find you tend to get more improvement in writing craft from moving on to a new story than staying on the same one.
newedgeswordmag.bsky.social
But you competed, which puts you ahead of many who say they'd *like* to write.

FWIW, I can tell you that our next submission window will be August of 2026 so you can aim for that, if you choose.

Sorry. Fwiw you can safely assume we'll open up next August and plan around that.

Those waiting on submissions may like to know, sort of, that rejections have begun being sent out today.
