Okay, introduction thread. I'll make this my pinned post.

So, hi. I'm Nick. I don't post often, but if I do, it'll probably be about cycling, comics, mental health, TV shows & movies, my cats, and social justice.

I'm left leaning as hell and angry the world is leaning more and more the other way.

I can't wait to hear what you think of it, even if it might not be your cup of tea!

Bouncing off this, it's funny how "spiritual successors" work in video games. Sometimes, the original developer can't get the rights, so they make something CLOSELY resembling the original.

Other times, it's a studio saying "FUCK. Fine! We'll do Dino Crisis if no one else will!"
nickpiers.bsky.social
Yep. Haven't published a new one in ten years, but yup.

I'm a writer. I recently returned to writing after giving up on it for years. I've published 2 novels about a mutant armadillo private detective (he digs for the truth). I want to write & publish more Armadillo Mysteries.

You can find everything about me and my writing at my website:

The cover for the novel, THE CITY OF SMOKE & MIRRORS, by Nick C Piers. A mutant armadillo is on the cover, brandishing a revolver, and wearing a trenchcoat and fedora. A mystery shadowy figure is on the building high above him. The cover to the novel, THE DAME WAS A TAD POLISH, by Nick Piers. A mutant armadillo is wearing a trenchcoat and fedora. A mutant poison dart frog is over his shoulder, wearing a Chinese style dress.

In my first novel, whenever I wrote "The Buzzardmobile," I added "(ugh)" after it. I thought it was funny narration from my main character.

Fortunately @haileypiperfights.bsky.social crossed out every single "ugh" after the first one and firmly said "No. Once is enough."

She was 100% correct.

repost this if an editor has ever saved you from yourself

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

Oh, great. The CEO follows a well-known transphobe and the mods rewrote the TOS for an infamous transphobe and pedophile advocate.

The COO here follows the fucking authors of Project 2025.

Um.

Just um. Yeah.

This is a problem.

Is bluesky safe?

I clicked on a YouTube video at the same time as seeing your comment and what do I see? A GODDAMN DAIRY FARM AD. You called it!

Oh sure, but when I take 20 minute naps on cars, it's a problem. Why do highland cattle get a pass?
dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social
Highland cattle are famous for their ability to "disco nap". Normally these brief, efficient sleeps will last between three and twenty minutes, deploying a variety of objects as pillows, including moorland boulders, cars or any particularly large dog or sheep who happens to be nearby.

Where are you seeing this forecast? I checked a couple of places and the most I'm seeing is 6mm. Maybe it depends on the area, since I'm in Dartmouth.

It's been the case for a while now, but CNN is basically an accomplice in the rise of the fascist regime.

Stephen Miller said the quiet part out loud. Trump has “plenary authority,” then suddenly went silent. Their plan wasn’t to be public yet. Clearly, someone hit the panic button in his earpiece.

It gets weirder: CNN uploaded the interview with the “plenary authority” comment edited out.

I've never seen the video, but apparently, his gums and mouth would bleed often (signs of scurvy). And he'd just smear the blood on his walls. 🤮

Between this and Jared Leto, I hope this movie tanks like no movie has tanked before.

Unfortunately, even if it tanks spectacularly, Disney will learn all the wrong lessons from it.

Welp, I MIGHT have lined up a new place. No guarantees yet, but she said my two furry knuckleheads are not deal-breakers. I still have to go check out the place. It's $1050 a month, everything included. That'd save me about $200-$300 a month.

We're discussing when I can come viewing.

Ugh. Trying to find a new place to move is really annoying when you own cats. A couple of places are promising, but the ad doesn't mention cats. So I at least ask if they're open to cats and it's a flat no.

I get it. Not everyone wants attack furballs tearing around, but still.
nickpiers.bsky.social
FFS, this place is getting worse and worse.

It almost makes me want to give up on social media altogether.

This is not what we mean when we say cyclists need more protection. #BikeHfx

A single bike parking spot bolted to a sidewalk. It had protective wrapping.

Guess I'm going nowhere.
