These solar panels will provide a lot of electricity.

The solar panels imported into Sierra Leone in the last 12 months, if installed, would generate electricity equivalent to 61% of the total reported 2023 electricity generation, significantly adding to electricity supply🤯

CATL says 50% of China’s heavy trucks will be EVs by 2028—up from 10% in 2024. This isn’t just a sales stat—it’s a total transformation of road freight. Diesel is dying. Battery swapping, LFP, & giga-scale supply chains are rewriting logistics. Oil’s grip on transport is slipping fast. #EV #China

Energy sector pricing reform needed in Belgium to accelerate electrification.
Did you know that electricity is often taxed more than fossil fuels in the EU?

It’s a policy choice that makes electrification less competitive.

Our @regassistproj.bsky.social report explores how taxes and levies shape this imbalance and what can be done.

The decline in child mortality in many low- to middle-income countries in the last 30 years has been quite remarkable.

Ethiopia's rate fell from 20% to 5%.

Improvements in child mortality in rich countries look pretty meagre by comparison. But that's only when looking at it in absolute terms.

⚠️ The gas grid death spiral in action.

As more homes electrify, gas demand falls. Prices rise. Disconnect fees go up. Fewer customers = higher costs for those left behind.

Frank Energy just quit NZ’s residential gas market — a textbook case.

Phasing out Russian gas in the EU is already technically feasible.

EU gas demand is expected to stay flat until 2030 and even Member States with the highest Russian gas reliance have alternative supply solutions readily available, thanks to EU-funded grid upgrades 🧵1/3

It’s out today. I just arrived in Belgium and found it at the newsstand. They illustrated it really nicely with some Our World in Data charts.

Industrial energy use in Europe reduced by 21% since 2000.

Most of this is because of energy efficiency: Without it industry energy consumption would be 37% higher today compared to 2000.

It's not because of deindustrialisation: Industrial activity in 2023 was much higher than in 2000.

How did the EU's electricity mix change in the last year?

☀️ Big growth in solar
☢️ 🌊 Rebound in nuclear & hydro
💨 Not so much growth in wind
🏭 Large drop in fossil fuels (both coal and gas)
🔌 Demand up

Dutch parliament just voted in favour of a legislative amendment allowing municipalities to phase out the gas network (after a heat transition vision has been adopted for a neighbourhood, and with at least eight years lead time). An important tool.
