man the era after the iMac when all the beige box makers realized "we can make our computers look interesting?!" was great
It’s the summer of 2001.

You just got a new desktop.

You’re ready to burn CDs and play Warcraft.

man AI really is trained on internet forums

I for one think it's extremely not concerning and normal and great that we're seeing a trend of AI bots writing callout posts when someone even politely says AI contributions aren't welcome much less yells at them

Just one more day until this launches and everyone can finally see whether my years of writing reviews and musing on what makes a good game taught me anything about design or if I'm just a big hypocritical doofus
Da Dum... Da Dum... 🦈

The JAWS game is circling back, it's going digital and even includes a new Enhanced Edition on PlayStation, Switch, and Steam!

So I'm archiving a laserdisc, and here's a fun fact about laserdiscs: Some of them have both analog and digital sound tracks!
Obviously I'm archiving both of them, but ran into a weird problem: They're out of sync!
I'm demonstrating this in an audio editor, by playing them both at once.

very tempting to secretly make alternate versions of every one of my blog post with all the facts made subtly wrong and feeding them to openai, gemini, etc. useragents and referers

I have a Google Workspace account and they're raising the price, whatever. But it drives me insane that they insist on that stupid "updated to reflect the additional value we've delivered" phrasing. Like come on, we're all adults here, Google, fuck off with that

The New England split top hot dog roll is superior to all other hot dog rolls because you can griddle both sides in butter, instantly improving whatever is inside.

New blog post! Fujitsu made a wildly complicated machine in the FM-77AV2, and this one defeated me. I did narrow the problem to a bad custom chip! Come along and see the heaviest 8-bit computer I owned before I got even heavier ones. www.leadedsolder.com/2026/02/10/f...

Leaded Solder vs. The Crazy 77
Things don’t always go to plan! When battling one of the most complex 8-bit home computers ever made, you can expect to run into some problems.

It occurs to me that many people don't know about the GameFan coffee incident.

In 1993, GameFan published a manic 6-page review of the game Cybermorph that was written while tripping on LSD that somebody put in the office coffee pot

The review declared that Cybermorph was the first "real" game

it might be fun to have a little single-board computer based off of Dottori-kun, fill the entire upper 32kiB with RAM and expand the IO a bit for more input, call it the SC-0000 or something

Mildly terrifying Mario as a Transformer, but for the Famicom cartridge of Super Mario Bros, from a Bandai toyline in 1986. It's a pretty whacky job. Open the cartridge like a briefcase and fold the limbs in or out. One of a few cartridge choices. Each also has a little item

the traits that make discord vulnerable to regulation are the same traits that let it kill the decentralized alternatives, so it's a non-trivial problem
