No military-backed coup is ever popular. Regimes that deploy troops, whether interior troops or national armed forces, or both, happen because some elite or cabal decides that their survival and fortunes can only be achieved through seizing and holding on to power, not through democracy.

Latex isn’t for everyone but there now nice front end GUIs for all OS. But most of my students and collaborators don’t use it, so I don’t use it

Twitter revolutionised my career.

I learnt a huge amount about causal inference through #EpiTwitter.

And I met many amazing people who I've since had the joy of working with (Eg @epiellie.bsky.social, @epidbydesign.bsky.social, @robertwplatt.bsky.social, @jlrohmann.bsky.social, etc etc)

My wild flowers are finally starting to pop after a long, flowerless summer
