Sadly, medicine is only one of the areas where the public's lack of knowledge is relentlessly exploited. But when people lack curiosity or a healthy sense of skepticism, it's an inevitable state of affairs.

Doesn't it strike you as strange that the people who shout long and loud that America is a Christian nation founded on Christian principles are the very people who don't want Christ's teachings of tolerance, pacifism, and generosity codified in law?

U.S. Democracy fails when we convince ourselves that voters are always right & should be told what they want to hear to earn their vote.

Actually, a healthy democracy MUST contradict voters. Leaders MUST tell ignorant voters what they NEED to hear when they don't know how the world works. 🧵

Just to be clear. It’s the John F Kennedy center legally.

Just like it’s still the department of defense

The Gutter President, a man lacking in decency, and too intellectually bankrupt to even pretend to care about anyone but himself.
NY Times: “This a presidency that celebrates nastiness and spite, not empathy or grace, a reflection, perhaps, of a coarser era in American life.”

Renaming the Kennedy Center, our national fine arts center, after such a coarse, lowbrow, and ignorant buffoon is America at its very stupidest.

Like any bully, Trump is fundamentally a coward. When he feels humiliated, he lashes out. Every authoritarian action he is taking must be understood against the backdrop of his declining popularity. He feigns strength, but he's operating from a place of weakness.

Will a reporter ask him the question Joseph Welch asked Sem. Joe McCarthy?
"Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?"

Just want to share with my American friends how the Australians respond to a shooting tragedy. Action, rather than thoughts and prayers.

A lifetime of "thoughts & prayers" have done JACK-SQUAT to reduce or eliminate gun violence. We need to do MORE.

It is the GUNS.

Another shooting. The details will shift, the outrage will fade. That’s the danger. Repetition trains acceptance. A country doesn’t collapse at once…it gets conditioned to look away.

This is a vague statement. The Preamble of the Constitution lists its purposes with more specificity. It seems balance ibetween the authorities & responsibilities of government and the rights & freedoms of the people.
Political society is complex. Slogans like this are inherently reductionist.
The purpose of the United States Constitution is to limit the power of the Federal Government, not the American People. #Truth

Stop accepting the cynical notion that “nothing can be done” about guns, or anything else for that matter. Every time you give up hope, the emperor has already won.

The image of the fearless crusading journalist is a fading mirage in the memory of those of us old enough to remember when they existed
The first reporter to speak up, interrupt, and call Trump out to his face while he is berating, insulting and personally attacking another female reporter for no reason will be a national hero. You may lose access, but you will be a legend forever. At some point, someone has to.

I feel sympathy and anger that critical thinking is not being taught in the schools or in the home. This is intentional by the government but parents are abdicating their responsibility too.
