We are here because policing in the U.S. has been this way for generations. This is why ICE acts with impunity. They know they can act this way.

THREAD. I don't know what there is left to say about the New York Times and Democrats, but documenting their support for authoritarianism still feels important. If there's any chance to walk back from the fascist cliff, we must see why things like today's article are so dangerous.

Epstein’s affection for young women was no secret.

As Donald Trump put it in New York Magazine in 2002, “It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”

BLACK PEOPLE: Please get vaccinated.

Recall RFK Jr.’s horrendously racist and pseudoscientific belief that we as Black people do not need vaccines because our immune systems are stronger and pointing at slavery as his proof.

He & his rhetoric mean you nothing BUT harm.

Trump's proposed data-sharing deal with Palantir would be an appalling attack on our privacy.

It goes hand-in-hand with his attacks on habeas corpus.

Liberals and conservatives should agree on this: we don't want mass surveillance or erosions of our civil liberties.

A doctor has been serving one of Baltimore’s poorest neighborhoods for decades — and if his patients can’t pay, that’s OK with him.

So when he was diagnosed with cancer, his community rallied to raise $100,000 for his treatments.
For decades, a doctor refused to charge patients who couldn't pay. When he couldn't pay, his patients came to his aid.
When Dr. Michael Zollicoffer was diagnosed with two types of cancer, his patients started a crowdfunding campaign that raised more than $100,000.

Some cities in Texas are running out of the MMR vaccine due to high demand.

While this is encouraging, it’s tragic that it’s only finally happening after a couple of preventable deaths due to anti-vax disinformation.

Studies show that funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) contributed to 354 of 356 drugs (99.4%) approved by the FDA from 2010 to 2019. Recklessly slashing NIH funding will mean that patients will be waiting much longer for life-saving treatments.

Allowing far-right governments to hold power harms people and greatly weakens social movements. Voting alone is insufficient to win justice, but ignoring its importance makes it much harder to achieve. To win, we need to use all the tools available, including strategic voting.

To stop crises like genocides, climate change, and pandemics, we need strong mass movements. But when people are more vulnerable to deportation, sickness, poverty, discrimination etc, it's much harder to build strong movements. The living conditions under which we organize matter.
