Can’t recommend enough that you follow @amyhanauer.bsky.social and her entire team at @itep.org. They are the *only* lefty tax group with a microsim - and therefore the only lefty tax group capable of doing this kind of analysis.

Hate to be millennial about it all but it is just mental that my whole working life has just been a series of recessions and “economic shocks”, underpinned by stagnant wages

This essay is truly remarkable -- really connects all the dots to explain what Musk, Thiel et al are actually up to, and it's much, much worse than you think
This has been my most ambitious piece of writing so far. It's long. And I will be working on a much shorter version for a wider audience. But I also don't want to lose sight of the deep truths lurking around us. So, here is The Plot Against America. www.notesfromthecircus.com/p/the-plot-a...

As someone who has reported on AI for 7 years and covered China tech as well, I think the biggest lesson to be drawn from DeepSeek is the huge cracks it illustrates with the current dominant paradigm of AI development. A long thread. 1/

In all seriousness: the last 2 weeks of TikTok posturing and Zuck grovelling, combined with the X insanity of the last year, should show you that an app with a feed that you don’t control serves *other people’s interests* - not yours.

Part of that is also due to the role of Elon Musk in Trump’s cabinet. Musk is beholden to Beijing (among other foreign regimes) for business links, and has already proven willing to roll over for Putin. A supranational figure, with little loyalty to the U.S.

Again, completely unprecedented.

What worries me is that most Americans will simply ignore what is being done in Washington over the next couple of years. They'll turn on the football game, watch an episode of the Real Housewives of Someplace, and ignore it as fundamental freedoms and crucial institutions are carved away.

These appointments prove that insisting people achieve and be promoted based on “merit” was never really their real concern.
