Do you ever find yourself thinking, “Man, I wish I could read about beer, but I’ll die if I go that long without gay ennui”? Well, I’m the Minneapolis-based beer writer for you.

Am I the best beer writer? No. Am I better than the beer writers for the Strib? Yes. Am I gay? Also yes. Duh. See above.

What should I listen to on my way back?
I have to go to Rochester tomorrow, and I deeply resent having to be in a car for so long.

Brigands & Breadknives is a very fun “cozy” fantasy book, and I think people should read it (after Legends & Lattes, and Bookshops & Bonedust).

I am begging people to take a moment to attempt to understand the levers that *do exist* and *do not exist* for municipal/state government to pull in response to ICE activity. I'm seeing some dangerously uninformed takes about who can do what and who can be blamed for different things.

Not cringe: dancing like a weirdo.
Cringe: dancing like a weirdo completely unaware of their body and how it impacts others nearby (literally).
It was a very good concert, with lots of cool people—and a handful of people who deserve to go straight to hell for their crowd behavior crimes.

I don’t think people should be allowed to be hot until they are at least 30. Being hot younger than that either goes to your head, or puts you at risk, or both. Either way, it’s bad for your development.

I've had some people ask me about my Chicken-Fried Seitan, and I'm too lazy to add it to my neglected recipe site, so here it is in a doc. It's a lot of work, and you need a food scale because I ain't no god damn son of a bitch, but it's well worth the investment. Love on a plate.

Anyone have a non-traditional side that slaps? I’m serving country-fried seitan, garlic and lemon tofu cutlets, mashed potatoes, garlic green beans, and biscuits for a “Friendsgiving,” and I wonder if I could pull off one more side that’s more of a curveball.

I’m frying up my from-scratch vegan chicken-fried seitan, and just landed on the phrase “mo battah, mo bettah.” We like things that are extra caked up in this house.

The Cure is one of those bands where any cover done by competent musicians is going to be good, and some are just fantastic.
I’ve often called this song—“Just Like Heaven”—the finest single of the 80s and meant it. This cover’s arrangement only confirms it for me 💜🔥

Insane but true fact: making US roads as safe as Canadian, Australian, or European roads would save more lives than eliminating murder from the US.

Proposed New York Times Opinion Piece: “Trans Women Shouldn’t Be Allowed in Women’s Restrooms Because Their Male Bladders Are an Unfair Advantage in Pissing Contests.”

The piece has been updated with EVEN. MORE. JOURNALISM. It turns out my email hates park board addresses, and a couple responses were in my spam (Cathy Abene, Meg Forney, and @olsenforparks.bsky.social).
I did a journalism for @racketmn.com in the name of democracy—crisp, malty, refreshing democracy. You can't get this sort of local flavor anywhere else.

My election-edition of Doin' Beers for @racketmn.com is sitting at 2,671 words*. I am not paid by the word. Why must I be like this? Why must I be so committed to democracy?

*A substantial chunk of this is quotes, but still.

Why didn’t anyone tell me about Hippo Pockets off 48th and Chicago? It’s amazing, and their waffle fries are ridiculously good.
