The pattern of ICE apparently hustling its detainees over a state border to frustrate habeas petitions in the jurisdiction where they were detained continues.

Remember that ICE didn’t disclose Öztürk’s location, publicly or to her counsel, until she reached Louisiana.
NEW: Tufts grad student Rümeysa Öztürk can't challenge her detention or visa revocation in MA federal court, because she was already in VT when her habeas petition was filed; and her First Amendment claims can't be reviewed by any court, argues the Trump admin. www.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

A reminder for Canadians that you can send mail to members of Parliament for free. You don't even need a stamp!

And political staffers will tell you that a personalized letter or postcard lands way harder than an email or a form letter.
I noticed that most (if not all) of the letters Senator Booker read from his constituents were actual letters, not emails, not things sent by a contact form.

Use snail mail, folks.

Buy stamps. Write letters. Make it personal!

I've never been so determined to muscle my way thru a bout of depression. I feel like I am trying to crawl across a room with broken limbs & yet, I am certain I will get to the other side. Purpose preempts despair. I will find some sleep. Tomorrow, I will wake up and do the things I know how to do.

we should be concerned about the impacts of social media on kids and teens, but i don’t think we’re worried nearly enough about what it’s doing to middle aged people and seniors

So, this isn’t exactly true. I was working for Disability Rights Pennsylvania, part of the protection and advocacy network, and there’s a whole other side to the story people don’t often tell because it’s very ugly. In the early days of Covid, they were floating around Universal DNRs
The early days of Covid showed us that if the government wanted - they could take care of everyone. They could provide a universal basic income, accommodate the needs of disabled people who had been pleading for remote healthcare & other services for years. They could keep us fed, safe and housed

California for years forcibly sterilized hundreds of women in prison, robbing them of reproductive freedom.

Then the state "allowed" victims to apply for compensation. But it has denied most.

The deadline to apply/appeal is Jan 1, 2025 & now there's a rush for justice. boltsmag.org/forced-steri...
For Survivors of Forced Sterilization in California Prisons, a Rushed Shot at Justice
A state board deciding reparations for women sterilized against their will rejected most applications. Advocates are now racing against a January deadline for victims to appeal.

I hope that the people who are usually not politically engaged but worked really hard to get Harris elected wake up soon and realize that they are not the only ones who are tired of a struggle that is full of defeat & in fact they could learn about surviving from the leftists they mark as enemies
