I realize sometimes I talk about what I make in chat, but y’all have probably never seen my textile art. I wanted to brag 🧍I’m on a mental hiatus, trying to find energy to return to it after a heart break. Descriptions of each piece will be in the alt text 💜
A costume depicting the queen of hearts, made in 2023. Dress features a heart shaped cut-out, cast on dark chenille fabric (my sewing enemy). Uses beading, crystals and gold trim to deepen the heart shape. The skirt is made up of a few decks of cards, strategically placed on a wire petty coat cage, held on by jump rings. The skirt is embellished by a gold heart trim with red crystals. Made this dress shortly after being laid off for few years. Oddly enough went viral in Russia for a bit, but the post was deleted. This and my Howls moving castle coat (not featured in this set of photos) are my most popular pieces. A shortened, gold Rococo style dress made to be Lumier from Beauty and the Beast. The overcoat is made using a golden jacquard. It’s trimmed with a rhinestone and pearl boarder. Little bits of lace peak out from the sleeves. The skirt is made out of crinkles tulle ruffles. The bodice appliqué (not made but me, but purchased complete on Etsy), is a dangling pearl design, mimicking the dripping of wax. The silhouette is overly dramatized to represent the sassy and dramatic personality of Cogsworth. This is achieved by lots of ruffles. This piece was made also in 2023 during my layoff. I saw the ad for the applique and it was set. I once was called a cheater for using the applique and getting told I barely did any work. I self drafted the entire piece, but okay. Another shortened Rococo inspired dress, this one being the mate, Cogsworth. This dress, unlike the gold one, has a more technical approach to its shape. The silhouette is slightly boxier to represent the personality of Cogsworth. The other dress is a brown, flocked demask dupioni. There are lots of white and gold box pleated ribbons outlining the dress and bodice panel. Little clock buttons are scattered throughout the although this piece is dark, there are Roman numerals painted in gold around the circumference of the skirt, going from 1 to 12, to mimic a clock face. The under skirt is a greenish, brass gold. The bodice panel is the same brass color, but it has many little golden gears sewn across it, like the inside of a clock. There are small red crystals inside each gear. This was made in 2023. I made this for my best friend. I was broke making this so I had this excel sheet for budgeting supplies and how could I get creative. I learned a lot about self drafting for a body that wasn’t my own too, which was a process but I did it. The recipient fit it perfectly and loves it. We have not made our debut together yet This picture depicts a red pirate coat, inspired by early 18th century pirates. It primarily uses a red chenille fabric. The edge along the opening uses golden lace. There is a button panel, also red, with golden buttons that sit on top of brown velvet ribbons outlining the buttons are highlighted by little snips of lace. The button panel is trimmed with a brown ribbon. The large cuff and pockets are made with the same gold jacquard from earlier, only dyed with brown to age them. A few more button sitting on brown ribbon line the top part of the cuff. A waist corset, also made to match, depicts a water color pattern of reds and browns. There is a belt on top containing a sword the size of a pinky finger. I made this coat this year and it took like 2 months?? It’s so heavy and was originally going to have a rope trim, but the fabric was too thick for a rope piping. I used bias tape instead. I finished this coat in the strike of midnight the day it was due. This is the only piece I no longer own, because it has memories attached to it. There is a chance I might get it back and sell it. Making it the only piece I’d sell.

Another soft sculpture object, the wings of this whatsit are embroidered using honeycomb stitch.

Really enjoying having something like this on the side to doodle on.

I finished the socks for my husband! This is the first time I’ve knitted the same pattern twice (really 4 times, 4 socks) and I don’t want to do that again!

Beautiful. Looks to me that the embroidered silk was a kimono bolt - looks the right width. Clever to use the contrasting blue fabric to make the width necessary for a bustled skirt!

Embroidered Japanese silk was fashioned into a tea gown in the late #1870s, the addition of blue silk panels shaping it into the bustle style silhouette. The exquisite-ness of the stitch means that I would take absolutely no refreshments whilst wearing. Sold via #coraginsburg #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Western Greek, from Cumae. 200-100 BCE. #BritishMuseum
Gilded bronze snake bracelet, with curved snake head terminals at either end. The body of the coiled bracelet is made of two medium thick wires of bronze twisted about one another. There’s a feather or vegetal pattern on the backs of the snake head terminals, reminiscent of the ‘agathadaemon’ snakes, which brought luck and fertility. Chips of gilding have worn off to reveal the dark bronze beneath.

Every year I look forward to sharing my Advent Calendar online. My mother made this by hand in 1976 or 1977. There no Velcro or glue - everything is sewn onto the panels in her tiny little stitches. Day One is a very content looking felt cow with a tiny French knot for her eye. #AdventCalendar
