This is horrific
This is sinister. If you're wondering why so many people don't report sexual assault, this is why.
jesus the Palm Beach Police really sought arrest warrants against underage Epstein victims for coming forward and cooperating, and (purported) admitting to crimes, and it caused the victims to become uncooperative with the federal investigation

What we’re being told is that a guy who is an adjudicated rapist, who was credibly accused of sexual assault by dozens of women, who paid hush money to a porn star, who cheated on all his wives, who is mentioned hundreds of times in the Epstein files, couldn’t possibly be a sexual predator.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Nothing to see here, just a right wing hyper-nationalist government going to their party’s youth event sponsored by a group with a martyred leader they’ve pledged to avenge, recruiting people to join their masked police force devoted to removing auslanders from ze homeland.

More from the important research by @lachlanmcnamee.bsky.social @salmamousa.bsky.social & @kylepeyton.bsky.social:

The backlash to CRT and DEI was concentrated among educated & professional class centrists & Republicans. Working class, who Yglesias says backlashed, didn't actually care
Since there seems to be a flurry of Yglesias discourse on here today, here is my take. He recently joined the moral panic over teaching about race--on the side of the racists. And he gets critical race theory wrong because he superficially engages with it.
A Tent Big Enough for Bigots but Too Small for Critical Race Theory
Like so many of critical race theory's detractors, Matthew Yglesias fails to engage with the actual scholarship.

The Trump administration is punishing the American Academy of Pediatrics.

I have enough thoughts about this for an entire feature length documentary but here are two minutes of them.

The White House claims the vote to rename the Kennedy Center was “unanimous.” That is false. I was muted on the call and denied the opportunity to speak or register my opposition. That is not consensus. That is censorship.

This. The roots of the MAGA movement and its embrace by the GOP go back generations.
I sent that draft to a certain centrist magazine that I thought might be interested in publishing a more heterodox (for them) take on the deeply-rooted and deeply-American, fascistic energies Trump had brought into the center of the GOP. They weren't interested, so I moved on to other things.

pretty sure I trust gas station sushi more than RFK Jr.'s CDC
Brutal but effective public health messaging from New York Public Health.

The CDC is compromised. They’re no longer a reliable source of information.

They push anti-vaxx & anti-science grift.

Get your vaccines. Wear a respirator. Clean the air

Get public health advice from experts, not RFK Jr

New in PN: Mike Johnson's downward spiral

"His speakership is a story of chaos and failure at a time when he and his party should be racking up wins. Apparently, the Lord played a trick on his humble servant: He may have given Johnson the job, but He didn’t say he’d be any good at it."

The next time Trump or one of his MAGA mofos starts talking about birthright citizenship.

Also, the SCOTUS has no power to unilaterally invalidate a Congressional Amendment - Roberts and the conservative wing can just fuck right off.
It starts with knowing the truth. Don’t allow yourselves to be gaslit into believing this is a real question.

I read a lot of books I admired this year-- but this one was the one I loved the most. Reminded me of Ursula K. Le Guin's "Buffalo Gals, Won't You Come Out Tonight," which is perhaps my all time favorite novella.
