when i was a kid, animated movies were about how when you're an artsy guy, your dad thinks you're gay for wanting to draw pictures. ratatouille, cloudy with a chance of meatballs, et al. it was that or clunky metaphors for racism

Between Ben Shapiro’s Wicked analysis & Donald Trump on Wendy Williams giving dating advice to the audience it’s kinda sad how conservatives will use their natural catty gay dude energy for evil instead of good. At least George Santos has a sort of yin & yang about him.

I’ve said as much during story meetings. What about the children who are already isolated because they feel different. Refusing to show them they matter and deserve to be in stories we see just causes them more pain which sounds to me a lot worse than having a conversation with your kids.
Pixar has removed a transgender character’s storyline from their new series #WinOrLose

A Disney rep says, “When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline”

The 9 year old has composed a song. It is called “Unlimited Breadsticks,” and here is the chorus:

The basket arrives to the table 🎶
And I think to myself
Who needs
This much breadstick 🎶

That a dude with a couple cameras and a plate of appetizers can make something worth $82.5 million and a media company looks at that and goes "couldn't we make even more money if we had AI do it?" tells you exactly how stupid these people are
The $82.5 million sale of "Hot Ones" studio First We Feast is part of a broader strategy at BuzzFeed to shift away from human editors, writers and content producers in favor of artificial intelligence, which result in "high-margin, tech-enabled revenue lines."
BuzzFeed sells "Hot Ones" studio for $82.5 million as it pursues more AI-driven content
The company said the sale will allow it to depend less on human-created content in favor of "high-margin, tech-enabled revenue lines."

I had hoped that Dead End would open the doors to more trans stories being told in animation but it mightve been part of the last gasp. For now at least. The pendulum will swing back.

I finally saw I Saw the TV Glow and I can’t stop thinking about it - the way Jane Schoenbrun creates a tightly contained space around Owen that always feels separate, artificial; the insanely spot on 90s production values of the Pink Opaque, the way Justice Smith wears loneliness and quiet despair

I made some frankly preposterously good looking spaghetti for the kids. Fresh parm, homemade meatballs, fresh chopped basil. Restaurant looking stuff.

My 6 year old: Dad can I say heck?
Me: sure buddy:
