New: we've obtained material explaining how an ICE surveillance system, called Webloc, works. Draw shape on a map, see all phones available there, follow them home. All without warrant

frankly a lot of stuff you can be doing right now you shouldn’t throw online
Just a general reminder that some people help their communities but don't post it on the internet for a myriad of reasons so, don't assume they don't care.

A lot of people are doing what they can right now.

According to my sources, the FBI was initially open to a concurrent investigation with the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (the state agency that would do this investigation).

Trumpy U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen heard about this and intervened, barring the FBI from cooperating with local police.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota investigators say they can't access evidence after fatal ICE shooting and FBI won't work jointly on probe.

Bluesky community! This is my official NYC mayor account. I’ll be posting updates on what’s happening at City Hall and how we’re delivering for New Yorkers. It’s great to be here.

They’re trying to cover up a murder that is playing on a loop on every phone.
The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says they've been informed by the FBI that US DOJ has said FBI will solely lead the investigation into Renee Nicole Good's killing by a federal officer. State investigators no longer have access to "case materials, scene evidence/investigative interviews"

Excellent, clarifying piece on the (real) legal pathway that Minnesota has to prosecute the ICE agent who shot and killed a woman today.

No, federal agents do not have absolute immunity from start charges, no matter what the Trump administration claims.
Wrote a piece for @slate.com explaining that states have a long history of prosecuting federal officers when they allegedly use excessive force. Federal officers are only immune from such prosecutions when they act reasonably in carrying out lawful duties.
Minnesota Could Prosecute the ICE Shooter. Trump Can’t Pardon Him.
Shortly after an ICE officer shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis, city leaders began looking into whether the officer had violated state criminal law.

Sadly this is correct, and no one likes it because people want to see punishment. The same process that created the problem cannot solve it. The only way is to remove power and money (which are the same basically).
I want people to realize prosecuting the police is always a long shot and even when successful that it hasn’t produced any observable change in behavior from the police in general.

You have every right to be angry but we have to ask what’s actually happening if our response is always limited to “We’re going to give them every resource and opportunity to keep doing this but we’re going to be so fucking mad when they do it.”

Look at the hundreds of people in that community in Minneapolis who ran TOWARDS the danger. Look at those who documented in their heads what happened so they could accurately recount it afterwards, look at those currently out protesting. Pay attention & do your part too.

Human brains feed off of negativity. Negative thoughts are easily digested and play in a loop in your mind all of the time. The reality, however, is that there is also A LOT OF GOOD happening every single minute. You have to do more work to pay attention to the good but it's worth it.

Heartfelt thanks to the protesters and neighbors who documented ICE’s murder today.

Please—take good care of yourselves in the aftermath of a seriously traumatic experience.
Today is a great day to remember that a memo leaked from Pam Bondi that suggested charging people who film ICE with domestic terrorism.

That’s how badly they don’t want to be filmed.

Today is a perfect example of why.

Everyone who filmed Renee Good’s murder has ensured the truth will out.

The U.S. is in the middle of a 12th wave of COVID. Career scientists at the CDC summarized this week in JAMA Internal Medicine that COVID continues to directly cause >100,000 deaths/year, with many excess deaths on top of that.

As usual @sandraduffy.bsky.social is absolutely right.

The UK state in Northern Ireland has quite the documented record of killing and torturing.

See also: UK war crimes and similar in Kenya, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
People living in UK - especially GB - should not be thinking 'at least we're not as bad as America,' when Northern Ireland exists and civilians were being shot by state forces there for decades, and recent governments have given those forces amnesty. @grantsana.bsky.social leading bsky voice here.

The sheer number of videos of the shooting is horrific, but in the vein of what @prisonculture.bsky.social has been saying, it proves how many people cared enough to show up where ICE was and record them. It wasn't just one or two legal observers, and when Good was shot, they didn't abandon her.
