I was adjusting my coffee grinder this morning, as the grind was just a little too coarse for my new machine. And as I clicked the little arrow to the left this popped into my head

Merry Christmas from my little goofball

🧵
'Twas Komasnacht Eve
And the forest was thrumming
With whispers that Koma
Just wouldn't be coming...

"He died when the sky broke,
Before the Tree burned.
Phyrexia took him:
He won't be returned."

They said there'll be snow at Christmas
They said there'll be peace on Earth
But instead it just kept on raining

Man I felt that

And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, was present at the end of the universe, having witnessed every black hole evaporate and every proton decay. Even so, Death would not come.

Absolutely wild pink nitrogen ribbon aurora burst last night here in Iceland. There was cloud cover, and I was worried the show would stay shrouded. Voila!

The purpley-pink & white ribbons are much closer to us in the atmosphere than standard green arcs, and are fast moving.

I am obsessed with the French Guys bakery’s kouign amann. I pretended I was buying for a group so I wouldn’t feel like a weirdo when I ordered three😭 Gonna be a delicious week.

Solstice timing gets me every year. I had Dec 21 on the calendar as the shortest day (accurate) but the longest night was actually last night, not tonight. A little bummed I didn’t mark it.

Bless the dog for letting me sleep in til almost 10am. I stayed up til 2am last night reading Grave Reservations by Cherie Priest and while I do not regret it (such a fun book!) my body is just not as young as I clearly think it is 😭

“Kathryn don’t criticize him he needs confidence”

“Let me know if you want me to get my therapist on the phone”

I am dying laughing
It was such a joy to celebrate Hanukkah with Mandy, Kathryn and their son, Gideon. As Jewish New Yorkers across our city prepare to light candles and mark the seventh night today, I wish you and your families a Hanukkah full of light and love.

Thought I’d live on the edge a little and bought a puzzle from goodwill. It’s a bit worn, but every single goddamn piece was there. Restored a tiny bit of my faith in humanity.

This is so accurate. 48 is “shit I forgot my gloves” and 52 is no socks needed.
After a year in the Bay Area — and a lifetime spent between NH, Ohio, PA, DC, NYC and London — I think I can finally safely say I understand the difference between 48 degrees and 52 degrees in a way I never could have comprehended before.

People are always like, “It rains too much in Seattle,” and they are wrong. But this? This is too much rain.

I’m finally watching Wake Up Dead Man and I feel…..deflated? This doesn’t seem anywhere near the fun as the first one. Even the second was better.

I’m having to fight to stay engaged and keep catching myself ignoring the tv. Actually I think I’ll DNF this, maybe try again another day.

Me: ...as a spelling of Hanukkah or...?
My friend Rose: yeah, it's a common joke that that's a technically possible spelling of hanukkah
