“We have to be really clear that there is no contradiction between saying clearly that antisemitism is completely unacceptable and demanding that the genocide end.”

Na'amod's Em Hilton spoke to @novaramedia.com about organising against antisemitism and for Palestinian liberation.

This is incredibly basic but you can in fact oppose murder while also opposing murder.

I don't trust the police to protect synagogues given they literally just shot and killed a Jewish man at a synagogue. But if I did, that would surely be far more important than arresting a bunch of pensioners.

Former Tory MP Penny Mordaunt’s claims that trade unions are “openly antisemitic” are false, dangerous and deeply irresponsible.

Trade unions have long stood against antisemitism and all forms of hate and continue to fight for equality, fairness and solidarity for all working people.

Any time a politician says we should leave the ECHR, the very next questions any interviewer should ask are
🚨Which human rights are you willing to lose personally
🚨Which methods of torture are you going to allow people to be sent to face
🚨Which family members would you be willing to lose

The violence of this rhetoric, polls and 'debates' shouldn't be underestimated. We're talking lives, families, relationships, people's sense of belonging, complex and messy attachments, their hopes and dreams.

If scrapping ILR became law, my family would be torn apart and I'd lose many friends.

Add to this worrying list “Library Washing” - persuading very prestigious university institutions to contribute their digital library collections to OpenAI’s model, to lend legitimacy, in exchange for a handful of (reduced cost!) magic AI beans.

OpenAI's VP for education recently said the company wanted to become "core infrastructure" for schools and universities. Any infrastructure, though, always depends on habituating users to its technical affordances - so I've been trying to track how it's doing that 🧵 www.nytimes.com/2025/06/07/t...

New essay: REJECT TRANS DOOM-POSTING.

It's about grief, loss, institutional failures, and the horror of the current moment.

It's also a love letter to trans community, and the things we do with and for one another.

it's so nice to see what a functioning judiciary looks like

"A transgender woman in the East African nation of Kenya has won a landmark court victory in which the judge not only found in her favour, but ordered the government to pass a Transgender Protection Rights Act."

fuck yeah

A fascinating read. In "The Unnatural Trade" @brycchancarey.bsky.social shows how almost all early accounts of the slave trade - which British abolitionists later used as evidence - were written by naturalists.
And these same natural histories were then used to argue for the colonisation of Africa.

An important new book by a team of experts on the tremendous violence of the revolutionary world, in which Europeans’ enlightenment humanism co-existed with their assaults on each other & the often genocidal destruction of non-European societies.

Today was the last day at the University for so many of our colleagues taking voluntary redundancy, with even more leaving in October.

We appreciate all of you and will miss you dearly. We will continue to fight so that others aren't forced into making the same difficult choice
