🇪🇺🇺🇦 What is an 'orbital oasis' anyway?
Is it something to strife for?
It would be incredibly neat if as many countries as possible (ideally all Rammstein group) stationed 50-100 men in Nuuk, Greenland. @robdewijk.bsky.social

Trump tariffing countries over Greenland is a test. If Europe just swallows it and tries to move on, it increases the odds of the WH thinking it can seize Greenland without consequences. Europe therefore has to respond.

What happens if and when U.S. generals receive orders to instruct lethal force against their -- on papers -- allies that they have trained with for decades and build deep personal connections?

Is there going to be any pushback or is it just "orders are orders"?
These troops could be for Minnesota, or they could be for Greenland.

The fact that we have to consider the latter shows Europe is now in a security dilemma with the United States.

We are in a security dilemma with our most powerful "ally."
About 1,500 soldiers w/ 11th Airborne Division in Alaska have been placed on prepare-to-deploy orders with a mission in Minnesota in mind, defense officials tell me tonight. Unclear if some or all of them ultimately will go.

News reported tonight by ABC News, too.

Imagine we had well-established pan-European media pursuing this: how to dismantle US Big Tech's extraordinary economic privileges in Europe? Which political parties/ groupings are helping, which aren't and why?
We need to mobilize simultaneous political pressure across the continent's parliaments.

What the EU can do: invoke the Anti-Coercion Instrument (2023).

It was designed so the EU could respond and seek reparations for situations where a third country pressures the EU into policy choices by threatening or applying trade and investment measures.

Rutte en andere Europese leiders moeten stoppen met Trump na te praten. Wie Groenland écht strategisch belangrijk vindt, sluit niet bijna al zijn militaire bases.

Toch?

This point should be made again and again: after the Russians destroyed Chechnya they forced Chechens to help subdue Ukrainians. Do we in Europe really want to fight a Russian-Ukrainian army? The Ukrainians are formidable warriors.

I feel like "academic hiring" discourse is always kind of downstream of the fact that in the 50s we started building a giant public system to make a college education almost universally available and in the 80s and 90s we started taking it apart to go back to the only-the-rich model
