Pre-sentence reports are not an indication of the sentence to be passed on an offender, the chair of the Sentencing Council has said. Sir William Davis explained that reports from probation officers simply provided the court with information about the defendant

This is not surprising, those of us who have participated in end of life care of a loved one (and often heard from the dying person how out of control they feel) know all too well the reality of terminal illness.
This is very interesting in Sunday Times. Those who have lost a parent in their life are more likely to support assisted dying than those who haven’t. It’s intensely personal isn’t it - personal experience can shape views both ways.
