I’m not religious at all, but sometimes the bible has an aphorism that springs to mind.

What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?

I think he’s Reinhard Heydrich, who Hitler called the man with an iron heart.

Academics and university staff being put on leave because of coordinated campaigns by right wing groups accusing them of criticising Charlie Kirk. I must admit I find the hypocrisy under the current US administration re free speech utterly outrageous.

Jodrell Bank in Cheshire, the world’s largest steerable dish radio telescope at the time (now the third largest). was switched on in 1957 on this day. Built by Bernard Lovell, it was the only radar device that could track the carrier rocket of the Soviet Union’s Sputnik I.

No one still alive has seen as much of the Tory party as Heseltine. He was involved in Concorde negotiations… When I research More Jam Tomorrow, he keeps popping up.

Watching the Conservatives’ extinction must hurt him profoundly in ways it’s hard for Bluesky to imagine.

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

I hereby declare war on premature Christmassing.

Any shop caught doing this before 1st December must be shut down and turned into affordable housing.

Choose sanity. Vote Binface.

Talking about 300x more miles per acre on Solar + EV than ethanol + ICE… is my love language.

Calculations vary slightly, but the conclusion is the same: solar is better on all measurable metrics than corn ethanol. No matter how “prime” the farmland is.
kevinjkircher.com
Over 40% of corn grown in Indiana is used to make ethanol that cars burn. One acre of corn yields about 16,500 vehicle-miles per year of ethanol, which sounds high until you realize that one acre of solar yields about 2,700,000 vehicle-miles per year: 16,000% more driving for a given plot of land.

I got plenty of scorn for this article- but I stand by what I wrote. This is best chance yet to end the current slaughter, free the hostages, and create space, and opportunity for a better future for Gazans. Do I trust all parties, no! Do, I think it has risks, gaps and flaws, yes! But, still 🙏🤞🙏🧵

Cynics will call me naive and stupid. But, it’s always easier to tear things down, and find fault, than try to work through fiendish problems. Of course it lack details, is fraught with risk, and will be attacked by all sides. But, this sickening conflict has to stop. bylinetimes.com/2025/09/30/w...

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

OK. It's going to be coming out soon because of the relentless investigations of Pam Bondi and Kash Patel, so I might as well admit it before the news breaks:

What single-point failure? Pretty much everything has redundancy, including full duplicate control rooms and a third emergency control room.

This is a lie.

There are many criticisms you might sensibly and truthfully make of the Sentencing Council and the Sentencing Guidelines. I’ve been making them for years.

But this is an outright lie. Pure fabrication. A fraud on the public.

There is a decency agenda absolutely in tune with majority feeling in the country that would be an open goal for the government if it wasn't also inclined to lurch towards an unpleasant space. Indeed it is one Keir Starmer could have personified if he could escape "Blue Labour" unpleasantness.

Wow. Robert Jenrick doubles down by branding a black journalist's questions "ridiculous" and saying that the problem is not his comments, but "journalists like you who pop up and try to knock me down", adding that "this is the reason why terrorist attacks happen". ~AA

I agree it won’t be batteries for that duty. Large scale storage of hydrogen or compressed air. CP2030 anticipates 5% unabated gas for the next several years to buy us time to commission very long duration storage.
otherprofgreen.bsky.social
Yes, remote communities in low-income countries are on a somewhat different path but that doesn’t detract from wind and solar coming to dominate national scale systems around the world when supplemented by storage. I know we still need solutions for Dunkleflaute and similar but we have time to solve

I’m not the only one I know but I quite often buy a book because I’m sure I’ll enjoy reading it and then some neglect to actually read it. So, as this is #BlsckHistoryMonth, I’m going to do my best to read one item a day from this excellent book.
A multi-coloured book cover with the title “Black History for Every Day of the Year”. Authors are David Olusoga, Yinka Olusoga and Kemi Olusoga. Look open on the page for 1st October and an article on Michaela Coel

Hi. It's me. 2 weeks later. This is done. 58 frames over 3 seconds, *50* layers in the final image. WOO. This was a long edit, felt like ACTUAL work so unless I get it again with the actual sunset I doubt I'll be editing more like this. Psyched for the final piece tho! 🪶
Three pelicans diving after sunset, with a sailboat and a tanker in the distance, 2 terns also fly, the pelicans are shown in their dive motion
