I was talking about this with my students yesterday—throughout Western Europe, Nazism is treated in public spaces and memorials as a nightmare, as horror that must never be repeated.

If slavery and Jim Crow received the same commemoration in the US, we'd be a very different country.
Buffoonery aside, I think a lot of Americans can't process that multiple generations of Germans renounce and revile past actions rather than treat them as an aspect of of their culture that must be maintained.

TRUMP: That was not a pleasant day for you? This is not a great day

When famously squaring off with President Donald Trump over education funding, Mills said she would see Trump in court. She did just that, and on Friday she won a settlement for her state, for the kids and for people everywhere who needed to see a certain asshole bully get punched right in the eye.

Four R senators and four R House members could announce they're caucusing with the Dems for now, and will vote for Schumer for Majority Leader and Jeffries for Speaker, because the threat to the rule of law is dire. Meanwhile, they'll work with Democrats to construct guardrails against dictatorship.

In the last day, I've helped an author with an op-ed in response to a statewide ban of her book, sent another a note of consolation because her friend and colleague was snatched off the street by ICE, and now this, from one of the greatest YA authors of all time.

I am children's book editor.
I just got a public death threat from a few folks who noticed I am doing a library event to talk about my career and my books. They called me all the familiar names, then “I won’t be sad if someone shoots her in the face.” And a woman’s reply, “Right between the eyes.”

I am a children’s author.

This bill *should* receive bipartisan backing as a tool to both reclaim Congress's power of the purse and to avoid the reckless collateral damage that comes from tariffs.
Trump is drunk on power and unleashing economic chaos. Congress must take back its constitutional power over trade policy to prevent economic disaster and protect our alliances. Introducing the Congressional Trade Authority Act with @repdelbene.bsky.social to do that:

"Any time you're given two choices, be suspicious." A woman once told me this, and it's always proved as wise as she is. Two choices betrays binary thinking: good vs evil, us vs them. Binary choices are usually illusions. There are infinite choices, infinite possibilities.

A worsening measles outbreak has taken root in Texas, sickening two dozen and hospitalizing nine on the western edge of the state, where childhood vaccination rates have dwindled in recent years.
