In a perfect world, this wouldn't even be something to have to worry about. However, we know it's not that way. I have a couple family members that are fully accepting that I'm close with (the rest just tolerates), so if that ain't good enough, oh well, their loss. I'd never have such a demand.
When people say that one of their non-negotiables is having a partner with a close bond to their family, they can leave me out of it.
