3/3 Hillhead Parish Church on Observatory Road into which the Kelvinside congregation was merged in 1978. The church was built in 1876 by James Sellars who is supposed to have taken Sainte-Chapelle in Paris as his inspiration. It has glass by Edward Burne-Jones and Sadie MacLennan.

The chapel in the 15th Century Blacader aisle, St Mungo's Cathedral. The aisle was almost entirely reglazed in the 1950s by Harry Stammers, one of the largest collections of his work.

A mural of the Statue of Liberty covering her eyes in shame was created by Dutch artist Judith de Leeuw. It is in a high population area of immigrants in France…!!!
She said ‘The values that the statue once stood for - freedom hope, the right to be yourself - have been lost for many’…!!!

I was thinking about Don DeLillo’s Underworld last night. I read it on a road trip, hauling around my luggage and a 900 page hardback. I finally abandoned it in New Orleans. The next day, I bought my first ebook. I still like physical books, but no more 900 pagers while traveling.

Four angels with the waters, stars, moon and sun, a detail of one of Louis Davis's Benedicite windows, 1911, in Dunblane Cathedral.

'O ye Angels of the Lord,
O ye Waters that be above the Firmament,
O ye Stars of Heaven,
O ye Sun and Moon,
Bless ye the Lord
Praise him, and magnify him for ever.'

If you love church interiors make a point of visiting St Andrews at Kirkandrews-on-Esk. Within the chancel find a framed copy of Raphael’s Transfiguration installed in 1893. It certainly blew me away with its splendour.

'Ruth gleaned in the fields until eve'

Much of St Mungo's Cathedral was reglazed in Munich glass in the 1860s. By the 1930s it had deteriorated, and was removed and replaced by what we see today. Kept in store, it's the largest surviving collection of Munich glass in the world. Some is on display.

I can't possibly leave Glasgow without posting some gable end murals. Firstly, St Mungo and the robin on High Street. Like many Glasgow murals, it's by Smug.
