The right, incl. Labour, like to say they stand up for the country but are shit scared of every corporation going. They will however, tell workers like Jnr Drs who want opportunities and decent pay to piss off.

Yes, awful. Aggressively regressive and again adds another financing black hole to budgets which make spending on useful and essential stuff more difficult and allows for even bigger wealth transfers from poorer people to wealthy people.
paumas.bsky.social
A credible economic future for Scotland and UK would be borrow to invest (green industries, energy and public housing) and tax wealth and high earners to underpin this spending but also redistribute to low earners and augment the middle classes.
paumas.bsky.social
Reform and Labour are going to do the same thing. Even Reform by raising tax threshold to 20k would actually mean more spending in the economy, as poor spend and rich hoard. However, they will also produce a Liz Truss effect with refusal to tax and massive budget black holes.
paumas.bsky.social
Instead we have been selling off public assets and cutting essential services which weakens us. It impacts our health, education and infrastructure to make us less efficient, poorer and worse off. Finally our financial position is weaker too, so we didn’t even achieve what we set out.
paumas.bsky.social
We have made a monumental fuck-up in the past few years in that we had the opportunity of a lifetime with the post 2008 super low interest rates that we could have used to borrow really cheaply and invest in our economy and communities to transition to Green economy and create new jobs.
paumas.bsky.social
The only reason to pay off the debt is to de-risk your liabilities so you maintain the confidence in your economy and currency. See Liz Truss.

If you have a credible plan for borrowing and spending then there is confidence in buying your debt. This would be clear plans to invest and tax.
paumas.bsky.social
If you cut and pay off the debt you are doing a number of things but for me two noticeable ones are reducing demand in the economy by reducing government spending which helps move money around the economy and you are sucking money out the economy. This is what happens when you pay off debt.
paumas.bsky.social
We are living under 14 years of austerity, last budget perhaps excluded but was a modest increase. In that period we have being cutting and selling. The cuts mean less people in work and more physical things the country owned being in private hands now.
paumas.bsky.social
The Tories are a bit irrelevant now but they are not too far away from Reform thinking. This cut expenditure, save and pay off the debt is nonsense. We already have slashed local authority budgets by 40% there is nothing to cut. You need to tax. 🧵

paumas.bsky.social
You can add the lost opportunity of a lifetime between 2008 and Covid where we had historically low interest rates and never borrowed to invest in infrastructure and transitioning our economy and instead hobbled the state through austerity.
paumas.bsky.social
Clearly the Tories are rattled by Reform. Must be exhausting pretending not to hate minorities the whole time and Reform say what they like. Think with Robert Jenrick and Murdo Fraser the mask has slipped.

Every so often complaining actually achieves something. Fines would be nice but I guess that is expecting too much. Let’s see if this chastisement has any real impact on UK Far-Right Daily.
paumas.bsky.social
There’s a media class who judge what is and isn’t worth reporting based upon the agreement with their own closed media circle. Many are the same right wing journalists who work for billionaire owned newspapers.

If you don’t play their game you have to work really hard for a fair shake.

I'd actually forgotten how extraordinary it is that when I won the leadership - I wasn't interviewed as it was too close to our party conference interviewed.

And then refused a second time!

Part of the antidote to all of this is creating our own media platforms.

Green sources say the show also refused to interview Polanski after he was elected as leader last month

We can all agree that the attack on the Synagogue in Manchester was terrorism

So why is setting a Mosque alight just 'arson' and a 'hate crime' and also not terrorism?

This is an attack on all our freedoms. It’s funny that the right always complain about limiting freedom of expression but when in power they are happy to themselves suppress everyone they disagree with.

There is another issue that pro-Israeli Gov. Jewish voices matter more than anti-genocide ones.

BREAKING: The Home Office is giving police new powers to restrict repeat protests like pro-Palestine marches.

Police can consider the ‘cumulative impact’ of protests on an area and could ban the protest / force it to move elsewhere.

Scottish Island communities continue to live with the catastrophe that has been the privatisation and separation of the ferry services from the ferry infrastructure. It was neo-liberalist ideological idiocy where each organisation takes no responsibility and blames each other

Does anyone notice in this clip that it is two women telling a man he is using homophobic language. The rest of the men on the panel say nothing.

I think it says a lot about where the threat in society comes from for minorities, LGBTQI people’s and women.

This is where we are, a homophobic slur used by a politician on national television. His denials show a man either ignorant of what words mean or so comfortable using homophobia in day to day speech he didn’t care.

I’ve been saying for years the Netanyahu does not care about diaspora Jews. If you don’t live in Israel he will happily see you as colateral for his genocide. All my love to all Jews in this sad Yom Kippur. Keep being your feisty loud funny selves 💜✡️

Today is the realisation of Jewish fears. What is happening in Gaza is a genocide but the Israeli state must answer for that and not ordinary Jews. Let’s stand with the Jewish community against Antisemitism. We all have a common enemy in those who try to divide us through hate and violence.

I said Milei will be an utter disaster, I have never been more certain in my life.

While this is the Farage and Badenoch blueprint for the UK. The UK though is not Argentina, as the UK is not Venezuelan. However, they will still inflict generational destruction to our public services and economy.
Farage, Trump, Musk: your boy Javier Milei just took one hell of a beating. Why so quiet? | Aditya Chakrabortty
