Important to add that even if you get a good contract for a translation, you should still send it to @societyofauthors.bsky.social. Especially if it has a good rate: if the SoA don’t ‘observe’ rates higher than £100/ 1000 words then they can’t change the rate and publishers will continue to cite it.
racheltranslates.bsky.social
Translators, it's always good to make use of the @societyofauthors.bsky.social contract vetting service, however experienced you are. Things change, new terms come up, and it gives them the opportunity to see good rates, clever terms etc. to help others with.
joannechocolat.bsky.social
The SOA has an excellent (free) contract vetting service for members: it's worth using it, even if your agent has already looked at your contract. Contracts can be long, complicated and confusing, and it's worth running yours past an expert before you sign.

Cover reveal!

Delighted to share the artwork for the August 2025 issue of MPT, Rhythms of the Land: Focus on the Poetry of Nature, guest-edited by Jessica Sequeira. This issue will be posting out to subscribers at the end of this week!

Cover artwork by artwork by Estéfani Díaz Azúa
The cover has a dark blue background with a paler blue image of low
hills with flat grassland on the lower third of the page. On the right is a large white and pale-blue image of a long thin plant with five leaves and some small flowers at the top. It reaches about three-quarters of the way up the page, framing the cover. On the left is a similar sized pale blue-and-white image of bent grass, with some leaning towards the
centre of the page as if blown by the wind. This image spreads onto the back page where there are also two smaller pale blue images of leaves. Contributors names in white text over the predominantly dark blue background.

Happy publication day to the gorgeous new green edition of THE SIMPLE ART OF KILLING A WOMAN! It's an urgent, important read that looks at the strength of individuals in the face of overwhelming violence and femicide in Brazil.
